Hey all!

I've been faffing about with smelly old Death Guard for too long now (they're still my favourites, and what!), so with the start of the new year, I've decided to set myself a BIG hobby challenge. I needed to start a new army. I needed it to be a big conversion project to keep me happy, and I needed it to be something that inspired me a great deal. After a bit of thinking, I came back to an idea I've had in my head for a good while, and I needed Skaven in space.
No, it isn't a groundbreaking idea by any stretch, but it's something that will open up a lot of conversion opportunities to me, and allow me to flex my creative muscles on something that doesn't actually have a great deal of source material on the internet, or it's own kits, so will mostly be fuelled by my imagination.
I settled on the idea of Skaven being most like Adeptus Mechanicus, particularly the Clan Moulder and Skryre varieties of Ratman. With this in mind, I set about creating an unholy fusion of the AdMech Skiitari kit, and the Plague Monk kit (I've always liked the models, and they have robes and hoods to fit the theme!)

I started off by creating a Ranger prototype and painting it to get a feel for the colour scheme. I settled on pale, almost albino rats with heavily contrasting rich blue robes.

I also managed to create a Vanguard Sergeant from the boxes I bought.

I have the Skaven Arch Warlock and the Mantic Veer-Myn Broodmother coming in the post too, to act as my first two Techpriests. Images below for reference:

Both of these seem to fit the image I have in my head for the army quite well, so these seem to be solid first HQ purchases! All I need to do is figure out how to fit a servo arm to each one and I'm away. I suspect for the broodmother at least, this will involve turning her tail into some kind of mechanical weapon.

My next task is figuring how to create 6 Transuranic Arquebus without absolutely breaking the bank buying Skaven Jezzail teams, which seems to be the simplest approach.
Watch me scratch my head and probably injure myself cutting tiny plastic pieces on the next episode of GreyMerchant makes some rats!

looking forward to see what else you come up with.

i did the exact same thing that you did for your ranger to make some ratlings for an IG force

Cheers man, I appreciate it! Glad I'm not the only one that's had this idea and therefore it may not be complete nonsense haha.

Okay so I finished my second Skiitari, I'm hoping at this rate I can have a squad done by weeks end!

I also managed to make a Transuranic Arquebus prototype. It's made from the same Plague Monk body, with the arquebus made from two halves of a regular Ranger rifle. I added a rat to his base to act as a "spotter" of sorts, and is something I'll likely continue with.

Finally, my Broodmother came. I pretty much assembled it as stock, but I was toying with the idea of making the tail into a servo arm. I heated the tail in hot water and shaped it into a more fluid pose, then added a punching spike from a Cryx Drudge Slave from the Warmachine range and pretty much called it a day.

C&C is welcome as always!
