So the ladies of my Necromunda gang need some heavy hauling capability. I had a spare rhino so I thought it could do the job but it turns out it's a bit small...

So I decided to biggerize it

First step is a bit of surgery.

I don't know if it's deliberate but the rhino really does have some rather nice incision points for this kind of conversion.

Plan is to give it 15mm extra width and maybe 30mm extra length. From this layout it should be a nice big cargo bay left

And now to stitch the thing back together. I've got loads of stowage and boxes and stuff to help hide the joins but they'll hopefully be reasonably subtle once the paint goes on.

The thing is to be civilian vehicle really just to use a scenery in Necromunda games so the turret currently resting on the cupola will have a crane rather than a gun. Ooh. Thinking about it though I'll magnetize that so I can replace with a turret if needed

That turret makes me think of it being a Repressor type vehicle, I think this will look really quite cool

Ooh. It does a bit. Wasn't intentional

So some progress tonight. Turns out it's a he'll of a lot easier to cut a tank up than it is to fit it back together with some degree of neatness... Getting there now though. The front end is pretty much done so now to get the rear track sections linked in. The floor will pretty much be holding the back on and together but it should be robust enough to use as scatter terrain. Or indeed sit on my shelf lonely and unused which is actually far more likely :(

The rhino model not being in scale to the necro figures shouldn't be that big a big surprise - given that it's NOT in scale to regular 40k minis anyway.

If it was in scale, it would have been closer to land raider sized but this would have meant GW sold fewer models (because there's only so much room on a table).
Nice trueish scaling up of the model, though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

The scale wasn't a surprise and I was looking to make an open topped cargo vehicle rather than an actual APC. I was just a bit disappointed even then about how little space the thing had.

I'm of trying to properly truescale it, just get a bit more cargo capacity installed. It is fun as well of course!

Definitely interesting. I like recovery style vehicles being added to games - wish we had more of them, and wish they had more useful rules.

I think they are handy as objectives and easy enough to use the rules for the base tank. I don't think there is much sense in most 40k games for much more than that though. 40k games themselves are covering a span of 10s of minutes for decisive engagements rather than the extended times needed to do serious recovery of a dead vehicle.

Also do you think I've got enough lights on it? i'm thinking I need at least 1 more on the front.

That looks cool. Good job so far.

I'd stop adding lights right about now. The vehicle has front lights to see where it's going and if it gets to work, it'll turn its back and the three spotlights toward whatever needs recovering. How much more light are you going to need outside the vehicle? Now if you were to add a bit of lighting around the top of the bay or by the outside tool hanger so a worker going about his business there can see what he's doing without requiring the spotlights, that would probably be a sensible addition if you ask me.

Not sure if the Goliath might be another option if you wanted a second vehicle?

Well the crane mounted spot is also intended to illuminate the cargo bay during works. I'll see what I've got to stick in the bay itself ...

It is the underhive after all which can get pretty dark.

The goliath is pretty neat but at the moment I'm trying to see what I can make out of the random stuff I've accumulated over the years first before buying new plastic.

I was a bit disappointed that Forgeworld seems to have dropped them from their range.

Sure is a shame. I always liked that one and therefore feel no shame trying to push you in the right direction. To that end, here's the one I built back in the day, may it inspire you to do the right thing.

That looks ace. Thanks for the tip. Using the multilaser as the arm connector is a nice idea that I may "borrow"

They do seem to have dropped a couple different models in the last little while. Weird because they're in IA...

I think they need to keep them in IA for all the people who bought them previously but i suppose they can drop stuff from their line. Pity because it was a nice little addition.

Anyway... now that the plague is gradually receding from my house and it's inhabitants I've finally been able to finish this thing. For your delectation, and amusement, a converted Rhino cargo hauler for my underhivettes. Also with a variant turret with a heavy stubber just in case anyone produces rules for vehicles

Pretty pleased at how it turned out in the end. There were a few low times when all I had was a few scattered chunks of track unit with no clear idea of how to fit them together again. The join us still a bit rough but a little bit of GS and a thick enough coat of paint should deal with it. Also quite happy with my extra wheel and tracks. They are straight and flat enough for my liking and the tank doesn't wobble on the desk so should be flat enough.

Any thoughts or comments? Anything that could be done better next time (hah fat chance ) or for future projects?
