Bald&bitter here, 32 years old & hailing from southern England, though currently spending most of my free time in Sydney owing to a shiny new Australian fiancè.
I work at sea and so when I'm away my access to the internet can be non-existent...please be patient if I spend long periods offline & I apologise in advance if you answer a question of mine but don't get any acknowledgement for a while!
In short I've been 'in to' GW since school in the early 90s, but never took the plunge & bought any models...my parents weren't especially supportive of the hobby & none of my friends were interested. The nearest GW store was over an hour away. I did, however, read White Dwarf so had a passing knowledge of the hobby as a whole.
In my teens & 20s I lost interest (cars & girls...), only to have it rekindled fairly recently after sailing with a guy who was in to his 40k. As I'm fairly settled now, with a little disposable cash, I'm taking the plunge & will start collecting Imperial Guard.
I'm going to have lots of questions about the most basic of things, from paint schemes through game mechanics to the background lore, so I would really appreciate your input...I only ask that you're understanding & don't shoot me down if I make a stupid rookie comment!
Thanks.

Good to have you join the hobby bud, I'm from Birmingham myself so very jealous of the Aussie location!

Hi there. Welcome back to the fold.
I work at sea and so when I'm away my access to the internet can be non-existent...please be patient if I spend long periods offline & I apologise in advance if you answer a question of mine but don't get any acknowledgement for a while!
You might want to put a shorter version of this into your profile's signature. Mine has got a bit out of hand
As for gaming, ask away.

Greetings and hello from a fellow Commonwealth country, Canada!
As an ex-GW employee I highly recommend checking out the Painting Blogs as well as the multitude of wonderful photos.
Forums are very informative and there's no such thing as a stupid question so ask away, knowledge is power!

Hello and welcome to Dakka!
It's always nice to hear of old players returning to the hobby. Sad to hear your parents weren't supportive of your hobbies, I'm very lucky to have had a father who never tried to change my interests.

Hey and welcome!
I definitely know what it feels like having parents who are against these kinds of hobbies. Even now they sometimes nag that when am I going to grow out of games. Nearing my 30's, so I guess never

Yeah, we should all grow up, give up gaming and do something constructive like argue with each other on Twitter like proper adults
