Played a game with a brand new player this weekend (he is just learning and that was the point of the game). In any case, he had purchased the SPace Marine Grenade launcher? for 1 point. (I am not sure exact name, I do not have the space marine codex). Basically it allows him to launch a grenade 30". The clarification is; does this count as a normal shooting weapon, and therefore can be fired WITH his other weapon? This was a learning game so I didn't want to pause for this, and let him fire his regular bolter and his grenade. The BRB says a model may fire more than one shooting weapon (shooting point 3).
Is this upgrade a second shooting weapon, or the equivalent of throwing a grenade?

1 point seems pretty cheap for the ability to gain a second 30" S6 AP -1 d3 attack, although if its a sgt only upgrade that's no big deal.

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Don't have the relevant weapon info on hand, but as long as the WEAPON TYPE isn't <Pistol> or <Grenade>, it can be fired together with all other non-pistol or grenade weapon.

Having the word "grenade" in its weapon name doesn't necessarily make it a grenade weapon type.

Edit:

If the wargear in your question is in reference to "Auxiliary Grenade Launcher", then it only makes the grenades it has 30" range as opposed to its regular 6". It is not a separate weapon, and is treated like a grenade for all rules purposes.

All it does is increase the range of your grenade. It's still a Grenade weapon so follows all the rules for Grenades. So no, he can't use it in addition to other weapons, because the rules for grenades prevents you from doing so.

Thanks guys. I did not have the weapon profile available. As a grenade weapon, follows those rules. Clear!
