Hello !

First time user ! First post ever!! (wish me luck)

Did a bit of research today and cannot find a lot information on the planets of 40K itslef.
What I left wondering is what are the most important planets in the lore, in relation to what army or factions. (kind of looking for a top 10)

I am also very interested in the geology, soil and atmosphere composition, vegetation, color, but any context of why this planet is related to that army is welcome

Thanks !

First of all, welcome to Dakka.

Regarding your question, Lexicanum is a good place to start for most 40k k info

It's not infallible so don't get too attached to the info but it's usually quite reliable.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

A top ten list would proably be a bit hard to give, but I'd go with a top three list in the IoM as being

1: Terra.
2: Mars
3: Macragge..

Cadia used to be in third place but with it's destruction and the return of Gulliman I'd say Macragge is now the third most important world in the Imperium. if only for it's symbolic value

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Armageddon for Orks as it is the site of their biggest current conflict with the Imperium.
Spoiler:
And was once the capital world for two of the greatest ever Ork Empires

Octarius for the Orks as it is site of their biggest conflict with the Tyranids and capital world of the Octarian Empire.

I don't really understand why that's important to them. As a side point who thought it would be good to call a planet Armageddon.... call it Hope or Cheer or Firaxes or just something not apocalyptic.

Well the most important thing to an Ork is a good fight and these two planets host the best scraps in the galaxy for Orks. Ergo they are the most important planets for the Orks.

Also, the concept of ownership is quite important in Ork society, the accumulation of shiny loot is an indicator of status and strength. Freebootas are noted to not even use most the cargo they capture, they take it just to show that they can.
I think that to lose a planet by force would be seen as an affront to the power and strength of all Orks, even if they would have wondered off and forgotten about it later!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On another note, I think there is a strong argument that the following planets are next in importance after Holy Terra itself to the Imperium as they host the shipyards and administration for each of the 5 Segmentums;

Bakka
Cypra Mundi
Hydraphur
Mars
Kar Duniash

I'm being a bit of a pedant, I know, but it's worth noting that Ultramar is the system; Macragge is the homeworld of the Ultramarines.

Also the World Engine was a planet-sized vessel but not an actual planet itself.
For important Necron worlds I'd rather say Mandragora, which is the crownworld of the Sautekh Dynasty (ruled by Imotekh) and Solemnace, from which Trazyn rules the Nihilakh Dynasty.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I think asking for planets is a bit wrong. Perhaps more places.

Terra, mars, mccracger for political power.

Eye of terror.

Web way, black libary, craftworld uthelwe, chomorag.

Necrons, orks and nids do not have known planets that stand out much.

Titan i suppose.
