What will be your first choice? any unit from any imperium army...what is the best to go with a space marines army?

atm all i can think is vindicare assasin?

Imperial Guard infantry, or Primaris Psykers. Space Marines is one of the few factions that does not have access to any kind of cheap wounds for screening purposes, and they could also use a better psyker. Apart from those two deficiencies SM is doing great. The vindicare assassin is not worth its points, in my opinion.

Scouts are a bit pricey, but their unique abilities make them one of the best screening units in the game. Librarians are also crazy valuable now with deepstriking X++ units all over.

The truth is, space marines don't NEED anything. If you include non-codex chapters, space marines do not have a single gap in their whole army. The problem is that a lot of their stuff is just really expensive for what it does (largely due to the codex being balanced around have guillimen.)

Then I would add nothing. They have more than enough units.

Seconded. It'd be more interesting to ask, "What would you take out?"

I’d actually shave off units. I’d make all the veterans into one unit, and I’d compress the different terminators into 1 units with the different armor as wargear options. I’d do other things as well because we’ve too many units in the Codex that are the same unit as another with only slight variations.

How about Honour Guard that actually go above two dudes?

Dreadnoughts could be compressed this way - venerable status used to be an upgrade, and "ironclad armour" could be, as well. The ironclad weapon options aren't that special, really, but you could restrict them to models which purchase the ironclad upgrade, if there was the need to.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Agreed - Terminators in this way would be much more interesting and save loads of space wasted currently

Scouts are great at screening against deepstrikers and infiltrate stratagems, and this is hugely important. But a good screen do all kinds of other stuff: Bubblewrapping against assault, feeding wounds to smiters, sacrificial chaff to tie up an enemy unit for a turn etc. Scouts are not good at all these tasks, and a pure Space Marine force suffers from that.

As a CSM player, I'd say having cultists helps so much at times, and they aren't even as good as proper guardsmen. So I think that'd be a really obvious and reasonable pick.

I would add another Primarch.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Cook marines. Space Marine chapters are limited to 1000 Marines PLUS SUPPORT Staff. The Cook Marine, alongside the Birthday Song Marine, and Power of Positive Thinking Marine, are just one of those very important support staff.

Yeah, marine list needs more consolidation than expansion (personally, I think centurions ought to just be a terminator loadout, for example).

AM infantry squad. Mix of scouts and those would cover all roles of chaff efficiently. Scouts alone are tad pricey to cover all roles.

I'd add the Babushka Armour... it's a Space Marine inside a larger Space Marine inside a larger Space Marine inside a larger Space Marine inside a larger Space Marine. Kinda like an uber-Centurion.

Most Chapters have a substantial standing force of failed iniaites who are pretty good warriors, some even retaining implants etc. If we were not alreadly drwoing in different marine models it would be something quit nice to add a few models but every other army should get new stuff before there are any new marine models.

that'd be an intreasting idea actually. Chapter serfs.

I expect the next new SM minis will be more Primaris

I'd honestly love to see a landing craft of sort for Primaris. Essentially a more beefy drop pod. Carries more units and has more dakka but can't move once it DS in.

yeah, the dark Imperium novel described the repulsor tank dropping in, I thought it a pity there was no deep strike in it's rules or even a stratigium to deep strike one

Yeah, I think it's more of a balance/rules thing. It would up the price of the Repulsor too, which is already pretty high.

proably, hence why I said a stratigium. it'd be nice if Primaris Marines had SOME sort of deep strike option

Wish we could just run Servo-Armless Servitors. 2 pts a model would be fantastic

I’ll agree that we probably need less marine units, not more.

If I could have one thing, it would probably be a turretless repulsor, so the primaris marines could have a slightly more reasonable transport.

Cook Marines are absolutely definitely not canon

But yeah if there was one army that could use a roster reduction it would be Space Marines.
