is flyrant with 2 x 2 devourers still the best option as it was in 7th edition?

It really depends

For me MRC+Gun+AG+Wings, I have used x2 guns and IMO its not as good as the Free melee weapon, so many times i needed to close the gap with melee, or needed AP and good damage, a Flyrant with MRC and some AI guns i feel is best.

If you are taking it as your WL wit the -1 to hit, then i would say sure all guns are better. You can keep at range, keep Synapse and a -1 with a 4++ is really strong.

I agree. I have has most success with flyrants armed heavy venom cannon, monstrous rending claws and adrenal glands. occasionally i like to give this guy the miasma cannon but mostly he gets my kraken -1 to hit one. Managed to overwatch a wounded avatar to death last game as my opponent forgot about the auto hitting at 8" or less miasma cannon .

I did this once to a SM player that likes to spam Dev squads, he was very not happy with me, espceailly since he was in cover with 3 units of 7 Devs and i use the Stratagem to remove Cover saves.

Miasma cannon on a kraken flyrant. Jumping out of combat, shooting and charging right back in is nasty. If you want to be ballsy try popping the advance/assault power first. I wouldn’t make it the warlord though, more of a speartip unit in a list of similarly fast units to overwhelm and provide synapse.

I tend to view my Winged Tyrants as problem solvers, so I lean on MRC, a gun, and Adrenal glands, as my base build.
