So trying to decide between two lists for week two of an escalation league. First week I was hurting for mobility, in a 500 pt list I went with two intercessors squads, a hell blaster squad, an LT and an Ancient. So my first lists drops the ancient, and adds an inceptor squad.

+++ escalation week 2 (Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition) [33 PL, 599pts] +++

++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Dark Angels) [33 PL, 599pts] ++

+ HQ +

Primaris Lieutenants [5 PL, 81pts]
. Primaris Lieutenant: Bolt pistol, Heavenfall Blade, Plasma pistol
. . Warlord: Stubborn Tenacity

+ Fast Attack +

Inceptor Squad [10 PL, 135pts]: 2x Inceptor, Inceptor Sergeant
. Assault Bolters: Assault bolter

+ Troops +

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 104pts]
. 4x Intercessor: 4x Stalker Bolt Rifle
. Intercessor Sergeant: Power sword, Stalker Bolt Rifle

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 104pts]
. 4x Intercessor: 4x Stalker Bolt Rifle
. Intercessor Sergeant: Power sword, Stalker Bolt Rifle

+ Heavy Support +

Hellblaster Squad [8 PL, 175pts]
. 4x Hellblaster: 4x Heavy Plasma Incinerator
. Hellblaster Sergeant: Bolt pistol, Heavy Plasma Incinerator

The inceptors give me some much needed mobility, and then because I couldn't quite fit an extra unit in, I do some upgrades such as stalker pattern bolt rifles and powerswords on the sgts. The idea is to take advantage of Grim resolve, and using the extra range for more deployment flexibility.

For the second lists, I have a redemptor painted up and ready to go, and low points means my opponents won't have many answers to him. I had to drop a unit of intercessors, but I feel a little tougher and more capable overall, except for mobility which will continue to be an issue.

+++ League week 2 V2 (Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition) [32 PL, 595pts] +++

++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Dark Angels) [32 PL, 595pts] ++

+ Heavy Support +

Hellblaster Squad [8 PL, 165pts]
. 4x Hellblaster: 4x Plasma incinerator
. Hellblaster Sergeant: Bolt pistol, Plasma incinerator

+ HQ +

Primaris Lieutenants [5 PL, 74pts]
. Primaris Lieutenant: Bolt pistol, Heavenfall Blade
. . Warlord: Stubborn Tenacity

+ Elites +

Primaris Ancient [4 PL, 69pts]

Redemptor Dreadnought [10 PL, 197pts]: Icarus Rocket Pod, Macro Plasma Incinerator, Onslaught Gatling Cannon
. Storm Bolters: 2x Storm bolter

+ Troops +

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 90pts]
. 4x Intercessor: 4x Bolt rifle
. Intercessor Sergeant: Bolt rifle

So what do you guys think, which list would you take?

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

I like the first list more. You'd be surprised how easy it is to take out dreadnoughts in low point games. I have been playing BA in an escalation league and kill dreadnoughts, razorbacks, and other light armor pretty easily with death company. And it's hard to screen it with such a low model count plus it'll be a pretty big target. I also feel like you'd really miss the inceptor mobility and the ability to keep them off the table turn 1.

I ended up going with a variation on the first list, and it worked pretty well. I ended up ditching all of the upgrades and just bringing two more intercessors.

First battle was against salamanders (10 man tac squad, 7 man tac squad, dev squad (3 HB 1 PC), a lt, and a librarian), it was burn and pillage (three objectives placed per player, first person to destroy your opponents three objectives wins). Deployed one unit of intercessors to guard objectives, one forward to threaten objectives, hell blasters in cover with a good view of the battle field, interceptors in deep strike, Primaris LT in center to support all units.

He got first turn, hell balsters held out losing 2 models, and I lost an intercessor to smite.After this I just bogged him down with the intercessors, which forced him to commit both of his tac squads to try and get my objectives. He lost the 7 man and his 10 man eventually beat my other squad in CC (my dice were pretty cold). But with all of his units committed and none on defense, I just dropped the interceptors behind him and kicked over his objectives.

He was in a tough spot, if he didn't go all in he'd lose the fight for my objectives, since I had better shooting and range. Still think he made the wrong call on this one, he was footslogging and I had a mobile unit with deep strike. He should have held one of the tac squads in back to make it harder for me to take all of his objectives. He tried to do this with his devs, but that just made them a better target and they were shot off the board by the end of turn 2. Target prioritization It would have been a harder choice for me if it were tac marines. He won the central fight killing my LT, and both squads of intercessors (it was 470 points vs 600 points in all fairness), but lost the battle.

Same scenario for the next fight, but it was vs necrons (10 man warrior squad, ghost ark, 10 man lychguard with sword and board, lead by orikan). Since Orikan hung out with the lych guard and the warriors were embarked, he basically had two units I had to deal with. I crippled the ghost ark with weapons from the dark ages, but never quite managed to kill it. Again, interceptors dropped down behind his forces to run his objectives, but he pivoted his warriors to try and deal the interceptors (the 1 wound ghost ark tried but wasn't much help), which ended up buying him an extra turn as you can't advance and fall back at the same time. The lychguard walked across the battlefield and kicked the crap out of a unit of intercessors, getting one of my objectives. The next turn I got his last objective.

If he had held his warriors back, it would have been a much tougher win for me, as it would have been a race to see if my Inceptors could kill his warriors and take his objectives before his lychguard wiped out the rest of my forces. As it was the warriors tried to play catch up, and the pivot to try and save objectives was too little too late.

Overall happy with how the Inceptors performed, my poor LT continues to get wrecked by anyone with a power weapon, but the threat of 5 attacks hitting on 2 with a -3 AP and a D3 damage makes a great distraction carnifex. Dark angels Hellbalsters continue to prove themselves to be one of the strongest units in the game, basically tossing around las cannon shots when they need too.

I love the batrep. I'd love to read more of these. It sounds like the mobility the inceptors gave you was pretty clutch. Glad to hear it went well.
