Hey dakkanauts I was wondering if you could help me out with finding a new game to play. I got an Xbox One and a PS4. My PC is gak so that is a no go until I upgrade. I just finished Assassin's Creed Origins with about 90 hours in it. I like games like that and I am not really into multiplayer games. I like some FPS games but not in the ways most people do. For instance I loved the campaign for CoD: Infinite Warware. I haven't played any of the others and only played that one because I got it for free.
The games I like and recently played are:

The Witcher III
Horizon Zero Dawn
Mad Max
Assassin's Creed: Origins
Prey
Dishonored
Dishonored 2
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider
Far Cry Primal
Far Cry 4
The Uncharted series
Doom
Final Fantasy XV
Final Fantasy XII
Technomancer

So I was looking for something like these games. I prefer to have fun and play through a good story over getting my ass handed to me over and over like in Dark Souls. I read up on Elex and it looked OK but my brother said it was gak. So do you all have any ideas? Oh and that list is in order from my most favorite at the top. I liked the all, but that is how I would rank them.

You mention Uncharted, the last two Tomb Raider games are excellent and a very similar vein, though they are a bit more open in their world design as I understand it (I've not been able to play Uncharted yet, damn you PS exclusivity!)... Rise of the Tomb Raider especially is probably somewhere in between Uncharted and Horizon: Zero Dawn so if that's your bag you can't go wrong with it.

If you like FPS games with a good single player, Titanfall 2 is well worth a look, the campaign in that is very refreshing; inventive level design, a few pseudo-platformer elements mixed in with the shooting, some very clever mechanics and a genuinely well-written story that's very easy to invest in even without knowing much of the setting.

If you're not averse to committing a hundred hours or so to a series and haven't played them, Dragon Age and Mass Effect are pretty much must-plays. While on a purely technical level even the latest Dragon Age (Inquisition) doesn't quite match Witcher 3, if what you look for in an RPG is epic storytelling, a healthy balance of humour and darkness and a compelling and nuanced world to explore (literally and figuratively) Dragon Age is as good as it gets for my money. The first one hasn't aged that well but is still superbly written, and the second and third are just great... Actually, I'll say the same for Mass Effect, though with that you can get an app that lets you skip the first game while carrying over all the big decisions.

(Incidentally, if you get an EA Access subscription on Xbox, you'll get access to all of the Mass Effect trilogy, the first and last Dragon Ages and Titanfall 2, along with stuff like Battlefield One which has a semi-decent campaign, various sports and driving games and a few smaller titles... Maybe pick up a month's subscription and try out a few games to see if you get on with them?)

Not much compared to the masterpieces of Prey and Dishonored, but how about the latest Hitman for something in a similar genre of 'play it your way' stealth stuff? Obviously the tone is very different, but if you enjoyed the multiple routes and level of choice you get when taking down a target in Dishonored, it might be a good shout.

Most recent game I finished was evil within 2, which was an impressive improvement over the first.

In that vein, resident evil 7 was also really good.

Thank for a thoughtful and well written reply. I like all of your suggestions!

Let's see, I have played some of them already. I have played all the Dragons Age games and Mass Effect trilogy. They are perfect suggestions though.

I played the first Tomb Raider and loved it, and I was thinking about getting the second one. My brother told me it was a little different and I might not like it. But I can buy it used and take it back if needed.

As for Titanfall, I really wanted to play the first one but it was multiplayer only and that is a big let down for me. However I didn't know the second one had a campaign. That is very interesting!

So from this you can understand why I reached out to you all. It seems like slim pickings right now. However Titian Fall 2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are perfect. I believe one of those will hold me over to the new Monster Hunter and then eventually Far Cry 5.

I have looked at other games but I didn't know if they fit the play style that I like. ARC looks neat but I not sure what kind of game it is. I also like space games, but they are hard to find on a console. No Man's Sky was a huge disappointment and Elite Dangerous was just too complicated. Also the Dead Space trilogy is one of my favorites and I like the Resident Evil games. I didn't buy the new one because I heard it was a 10 hour game. I have a personal rule that I pay $10 for each 10 hours of gameplay. So a $60 game should have $60 hours of gameplay. The Witcher III plus the two expansion packs set me back about $100 (I got 4 physical gwent decks with that too). However the game and expansions alone gavce me 140 hours of game play so that was a hell of a deal. Horizon zero dawn plus Frozen Wilds set me back $75 and with a 100+ hours of game play that was a steal. Anyways I am rambling now. Thanks for your help

Thanks! Yeah the first one was bad. It was just too damn hard. I don't like games like that. I play all my games on normal. I am not out to prove something. I just want to be entertained. Since you suggested resident evil, about how many hours of playtime does it have?

I can't offer you too much help, as I don't know the XBone and PS4 libraries too well. But, I can say that, if you are interested in Elex, watch some Youtube videos of it. I gave the game an honest try, and I just could not get past how bad the protagonist is.
Also, keep in mind that while you say your PC is gak, don't forget about GOG.com, as there are many great games there that don't require a good PC.

If you liked ACO, I'd recommend AC black flag. Even better than ACO, significantly so imo (better plot/characters/superb ship combat).

RE7 was honestly pretty short, maybe 8 hours in total. But it's quite good survival horror.

I played EW2 on nightmare (a step above normal) mode, and it was honestly a pretty rough go at first. On normal, I think it's still pretty rough at first, but there's a lot more ammo and health, so you build up reserves.

Your list of favorite games is very similar to mine. Great taste!

If you haven't already played it, The Last of Us has a slick revamped PS4 release including the very excellent DLC, and is pretty much the most engrossing game I have ever played.

Until Dawn is a fun game. More of an explore/collect game with occasional quicktime events. Great take on the typical "teen slasher" tropes.

Final Fantasy 15 was so good. I loved that game so much, I probably should play the expansions. Anyway, like many other threads, I'm going to recommend Persona 5. A JRPG which has a fantastic story, and doesn't take too long to get used to how the fight system works. As someone who didn't like JRPG combat, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The fights went from the most dreaded bit of the game to the best. The soundtrack is amazing as well, and the art style is so unique too, but you really have to experience it for yourself.
