Since the Grey Knight transports (like land raiders) don't have the Primaris prohibition written into their rules does that mean they can carry Primaris Marines? And, if so, how many primaris to a grey knight for capacity purposes?

What do their rules say they can carry?

It says grey knight infantry with a capacity penalty for terminators. So are you implying that I can't put normal SM infantry in a GK land raider?

Space Marines don't have the Grey Knight keyword, so they can't go in Grey Knight land raiders.

I've just recently started playing again. Can you tell me where I can' find the rule that says transports can only be used with chapter keywords? I'm not being sarcastic. I honestly want to know because that means you can't put SM into SM vehicles unless they are the same chapter. Which seems to me to be pretty ridiculous on the battlefield.

edit- I can sort of see it for dedicated transports and who can start in which vehicles. But once the fight is on, not so much.

The rules are found on the individual transport. It's not a global rule.

For example, Valkyries have a restriction of "ASTRA MILITARUM INFANTRY models", a Land Raider from Codex:SM has a restriction of "<CHAPTER> INFANTRY models" and a Grey Knights Land Raider has a restriction of "GREY KNIGHTS INFANTRY models".

This means you can't put BLOOD ANGELS into an ULTRAMARINES Land Raider. I remember back in the day only the unit the transport was bought for could ride in it. Then they made it anyone and that lead to silly things like Assassins riding about in Land Raiders. So this is a happy medium.

I guess that's the way it is then.

But really, why can't my GK land raider stop and pick up my other detachment's BT crusaders? The BT model is identical to the GK one so it's not a matter of proprietary tech or some such.

Just take a BT LR if that's what you want to do. How many units are hopping in and out of transports in your games???

It's because of game balance reasons. Like I said, in the past we have had it both ways, Transports being 100% locked to the unit they were bought for, and Transports being glorified Taxis.

This is a middle way that is not overly punitive but not overly free-form.

As a little extra to help interpret rules in the future:

40k's rules are permissive. This means that generally speaking you can't do things unless there is a specific rule saying you can. If there is no rule saying you can do it, generally that means you cannot.

So when a transport says it can carry Grey Knights and doesn't say anything else, that's all it can carry.
