A neat little project for January, when you have absolutely NO spare cash… https://skinflintgames.wordpress.com/2018/01/19/terrain-talk-pt-4a-plasma-reactor-1-of-2/

Interesting. But isn't the bulb fragile, and liable to break easily?

If you drop it onto a hard floor from a few feet up, chances are it'll break. But these types of bulb are alot less fragile than traditional ones and it should hold up to gaming and storage pretty well, as long as you're reasonably careful how you store it.

I too would worry about the bulb breaking. Aren't they quite dangerous too, as they contain mercury? Couldn't you substitute the bulb for something else? It's a good starting point for inspiration.

I'd save up the £8.00 required and buy MDF generators (2 per pack) from TTCombat... https://ttcombat.com/products/generator

You've got me staring at this burnt-out LED bulb and pondering how to turn it into something Orky...

Probably work

CFLs do contain some toxic materials such as mercury, but I've known them to be far more resistant to breakage than the old incandescent bulbs were. Even then, so long as it's disposed of safely if it does break, you're not going to suffer any real ramifications from this long as you don't lick the broken bulb. Mercury, like lead, is one of those things that brief exposure to doesn't cause massive harm, but long term or internal exposure is going to get bad quick.

I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to causally play around with AC voltage for their table, but when I was skimming at the pictures I was kind of hoping you were going to wire up the bulb to glow.

I thought they seemed a bit tougher than regular bulbs- they won't be traveling either, so we should be good :-)
