life.

so I'm gonna just boost the signal here. I am not affiliated with this game nor it's creators at all. I just read the story, saw the effort, and thought it was good. I also didn't see a thread here, and think it deserves it.

this new game system was kicked off by a college student who wanted to get back to affordable rank and flank mini wargaming. he won a $5000 grant and got the basics set up, but needs help. This game has an awesome story and some really cool miniatures.

looks somewhat like fantasy mixed with mad max tribes.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

That human faction fluff is painful. Are these college student devs by any chance business/econ students?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The men at arms have no "arms"
The canthro knights are on foot with no weapons

There main aim was to be super cheap but the starter set is $120 for less than a gw starter set ...

Also the numbers don't add up . At the top it says they have 11 backers and have raised $11k but when you go down the list they only have 5 backers for $940 one of these is $700 so that means the other 6 " backers" have chosen the non reward level and decided to give over $10k between them for nothing .

The video is nice, but the figures are not particularly amazing (nor is their paint job). I don't see what is giving this an edge over anything else in the marketplace.

Best of luck to them.

They now have 6 no reward or $1 backers and are up to $16k so the new no reward "backer" has pledged $5k. It could be someone trolling them or it is one of the creators artifically bumping the numbers to make the project look more popular. Doesn't look good either way.

Just noticed that pledges under $200 are not entitled to any stretch goals, at least some should be included with the $130 "Starter Set".

Future Kickstarter game creators: If you don't have a custom scratch built table then at least borrow a play mat and a few pieces of painted terrain when you take photos of your game. Photos of a game being played on a table surface or what looks like a piece of unpainted plaster board with a few lines carved into it do not sell the game.

If you look closely you can see they have had there right arms removed and replaced with a blade (I only noticed as it's mentioned in the fluff underneath the unit), they could have gone for a much better to pose to display this rather than the running pose with weapon hand behind they went for. I think they could have found a more fitting name than "Canthro Knights" going by the model design and fluff as they are not at all knightly.

Apparently psychology.

I give them props for trying. And the fluff is at first glance interesting

I prefer to assume it's family trying to help out or something, but either way, yeah, if they fund this, it's not because of a strong project.

Yeah, props for trying, but their presentation and rewards could use some serious work.

That's a lot of people to have decided that not very impressive KS, though.

It looks like it's $350 for 50 minis, which is pretty silly since they're pretty much on par with prepainted, but it's not terrible for cheap painting... It's not the worst thing about the KS.

First created by a college student. Better to use the funding from his close contacts to create his own company, establish his reputation, then run a KS.

Yeah I'm guessing family and friends are trying to inflate it so it has more chance of reaching the 70+k it needs to fund then they will be given their money back and the remaining 50ish k left to produce the game .

I'm pretty sure that's against kickstarters t&cs

Which would be idiotic as Kickstarter takes their 10% off the total.

It's a bit too on the sleeve derivative IMO. Derivative with a twist can be charming ( like all of 40k) but in this case the basic premise of the setting reads a lot like age of sigmar- demon incursions destroy old world, portals in the present time connect to untold worlds. And that's just the beginning.

It also suffers from the fantasy trope of using lind of unwieldy fantasy names to descibe every other noun or object. Less is often more in that regard, and you have to build up a setting based on the strength of everything in it before people catch on to using klingon, dothraki, or 41st mellenium faux Latin to describe everything.

The writing itself also isn't great IMO, but that's more of a matter of personal taste, I figure.
