I will be using ultramarines tactics and the thought is that i am keeping a strong fire base at my zone and creating a deep-striking fire base anywhere in the enemy's zone

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Chapter master will be coming out from the drop pod with lieutenant and the tacticals...so ill will have 4 melta-combi melta rerolling everything to hit and 1's to wound

You might instead consider running 2 squads of multimelta devastators in the pod and giving the Capt and Lt. jump packs to deep strike with them, 8 MM that get to reroll

1. Hellblaster units all have bolt pistols and plasma incinerators, you can't skip the SGT and so your points are a bit off there. Also, what flavor of plasma incinerator are you using?
2. Who's going in the Drop Pod under normal circumstances?
3. Vanguard with Lightning claws are a bit of a waste; the reroll to wound rarely matters as much as the 3 AP from a power sword (especially if you're bundling the LT in the pod to throw at people), and you could fit them with storm shields with the saved points. I personally use Power Sword/Plasma pistol as it maxes the return on investment per model, but i'm a plasma junky.
3.a Vanguard grunts with thunderhammers are not recommended. On the SGT it's efficient but you're only getting 2 attacks for the exact same price on the grunts.
4. Where's your relic?

I have been trying this and while it's REALLY nice, it's such a huge investment that I wouldn't recommend it unless the army is built around capitalising on it, unlike this one which is leaning more on termies .

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Well actually i am using for the first time vanguards so i am new with them...you suggest power-swords on all of them? as i said in the drop pod there will be the chapter master the lieutenant and the tacticals with melta and combi melta (was thinking of 8 veterans all with combi meltas but i dont want to go so expansive.

Missed the 'auto added to post bit' >.<

In which case you're possibly mismatched; 50% of your army has to deploy, meaning your ASM might have to start on the table.

Regarding Vanguard PSwords; if you're buying a new kit, it should be straightforward enough to pin them (if you don't want to try magnets) to try them out in combination - from memory there should be enough power swords to go around and if not the tac and ASM sprues should cover it.

Before I tried the double melta dev pods, I was doing Capt + Dpod combi plasma - Not as effective as I would have liked sadly. Melta (not mmelta) would probably fare even worse overall until you get within 6"; they're just so squishy...

BRB page 215 - Tactical Reserves (matched play)
This means you have to have at least half of your army set up on the battlefield

It doesn't completely cripple deep strike armies as characters and 2 model units are perfectly valid, and you can put them all in a transport (Bastion) to preserve deployment advantage, but it does mean you have to keep track on what deep strikes and what doesn't.

I'm a bit iffy about power axes vs power swords, but no harm in trying them

i see..thanks for the heads up... but i can put tacticals and 2 characters inside the drop pod so it counts as 1 unit in deployment..right?

Food for thought: raven guard chapter master allows rerolling failed charges for jump pack units within 6 inches. Also if you charge with the shrike the enemy can not fire overwatch. Page 199 warlord trait silent strike. So you won't loose as many models to snap fire. It will be cheaper to use jamp pack assault marines and vaguards than terminators. I love my terminators, but they just don't see worth it for attacking. You could also give the lieutenant a jump pack and then you save the point on the drop pod.

thanks for your tips mate... i found out that my assault terminators never manage to get in close combat indeed ^^ but they soack up lots of shooting! i was using drop pod for the meltas...even out of melta range they ruin enemy characters!
