So rather than showing everything at once, I'll just show single stands for step-by-steps

The Spire skin was base coated Nurgling green whilst the hundred Kingdoms had a nice warm Bugman's glow

The greens are to help build a palid, vat grown look... more later:

Next The Spire skin was drybrushed with armpainter necrotic flesh, producing a dayglow green affair.... trust me on this
Whist the Hundred kingdoms got a much more conventional kislev flesh drybrush....

Soooo after painting the Spires fabrics in armypainter cultis robe, the green was getting overpowering so just to set the score that I do (kind of....) know what I'm doing, one example has been glased with Reikland fleshtone, Normally for zombies or dead stuff, I'd do the same with purple ink but the intention here was for the same slick, pale, sickly skin but for it to be clear that there was blood flowing under the skin (given this phot is a bit washed out with light. Hopefully the next update with look more clear )

Was away with work last night so I slipped some shields into my bag and got half way through them in the little time I could chance.

Here's a little stage by stage

1 oak brown base coat, drybrushed leather brown, cultist robe
2 drybrush skeleton bone, drybrush nurgling green
3 agrax earthshade wash, black wash
4 highlight skeleton bone, agrax earthshade shading, nurgling Green highlight

I got my red paints out ready to add some colour to the Hundred Kingdoms... Flicked though some concept art... Found the Knight in front of the mural.... Was enchanted by the turquoise... Put the red paint away.

I'll take some well lit close ups once all the base coats are down. It's all a bit messy atm

I've hit a milestone

Base coats on the Spire are 100% done. Onto dry brushing, shading and highlighting

Need to wet the Hundred Kingdoms to the same stage first though

Base coats....

One glazed do you don't think I've gone mental with the green XD

The whole project overview today;

I'm liking the green and brown color scheme you have going for the Spire. Is the green undercoat for a pink/pale skin or are you going to do a green skin?

oh no, the skin will have a palid look when it's glazed. The close up on the archer there is painted the same green but glazed in reikland flesh. They will all be like that and the brown is the base coat for a bone colour but I want it to have very contrasting shading

Ah ok, don't know how I missed that up thread. You are using techniques I haven't really seen before (glazing a flesh colour over a green) but the result looks good!

Thanks dude. I always found that (GW in particular) flesh shades have too much red to glaze over skin tones. They end up looking sunburned XD

The bonus to using a green this bright over a more.muted green is that it still shows through on the extremities. I wasn't 100% sure it would but I did hope so that they would have a vat grown appearance since they are all clones & drones

(don't forget, you can follow Conquest here: www.facebook.com/parabellumwargames)

Right! That's got the base coats finished on all 91 models, here's a sample of them at this stage:

(remember that greens appear bright but will be balanced out with a glaze)

Also the brouns of the Spire will be built up to a bone effect like the earlier shields....

It's all a bit flat looking atm but that's base coats for you. Cant wait to give these some depth and start tying those colours together....

Thanks Gal I actually want another one to explore more posing opitions (squatting low with both arms out like it's about to give an angry cuddle )

Was about to start shading and shizzle until I realised I haden't base coated my shields properly.

A cheeky hour this afternoon solved that little oversight! I can finally crack on this evening... now what do I watch while I paint?... thinking R.I.P.D.

"St Lazareth, be our shield from the horrors that lurk in the night....."

Thanks Gents. I should have some early rules next week for some demos too

@Gallahad They were drybrushed. To keep the colour scheme as quick and easy as possible, I dry brushed a cultist rob base coat with nurgling green. The base 2 and the highlight 1 shade brighter than I wanted so that a flat black wash finished with perfectly and ofc did all the neatening up for me The bone, however is all badly wetblended XD

Question: what paint brands are you using for the metallics? I've had trouble lately finding a brand that I've liked.

My metallics are all Citadel, I think they are Ironbreaker, Lead belcher, Scorpion brass and Runelord brass in the instance. I've tried a few others but alway end up coming back to them.

All my other paints are valleho or thearmypainter warpaints though.
