I'll be honest, when AoS first came out, I was turned off by the simplicity of the rules, and the death of the Old World fluff. I really liked Kislevites and Skaven, but once the new stuff came out, I turned away completely in favor of 40k. Now a few of my friends out here have AoS armies, and I'm starting to hear the call of a new army. How do dwarves look in AoS? What is their build like, and how should I go about starting a dwarf force?

Night Lord XIII Company: 6,600 Points, 12W-4L
Skaven Cheese-stealer Renegade Cult: 2,000 points, 0-0
Warboss Spine Squisha's Ork Warband: 3,000 Points, 1W-3L
Carcharadons Astra: 2000 Points, 11-2
Drukhari: 1250 Points, 2-0

Really hard call, with the 2 new AoS specific "dwarves" its a interesting choice. The Fyreslayers are more savage but great melee, the Overlords have a really unique feel but are more ..shooty. so its kind of how do you feel like playing. the game is simplistic, but there is some bit of tactics to it to make the armies different enough.

The units most would describe as 'generic fantasy dwarves' were mostly collected under the keyword 'dispossessed' which are able to ally with the steampunk and slayer dwarf factions so about 20% of your points can be allocated thereto (or just run Order and have unfettered access to all of them.)

I don't know much about them but I know one of the guys working at our local GW store is making an army of them and seems fairly excited, he's always showing off these custom rune lords he's been building.

Why people say the Dwarf Warrior kit is ugly? I love it! And it does the job. My first White Dwarf ever was the 2006 one where they presented the new dwarf plastic kits in a battlereport agaisnt Ogre Kingdoms.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

It's not ugly as such it just looks a lot worse than the longbeard and ironbreaker kit models do.

In the last year I got into Age of Sigmar and built a Dispossessed army and I have loved it. That we before the new General's handbook 2017. They have good synergies and feel dwarfy. I mostly fight new armies and I can hold my own. The new allegiance abilities are good compared to generic order.

Kharadron Overlords are also fun. They are more shooty but almost feel like a 40k army.

What are you running in your dispossessed? That's the route I'm going, ordered some characters and a cannon today, But thinking the grudgebearer War Throng is gonna be a pretty solid starter option.

I never under stand the criticism either, I really love the dwarf Warrior kit. I feel it has more character than the Longbeards and hammerers too.

Does character mean weird beards?

YES

I like all the beards on all of the dwarf kits though, my biggest complaint with the warriors is that i can't easily use their beardy heads for other things.

realism is a lie

I second the Flame Cannon! It just suffers from the same weakness as the Hellcannon, which is it's super easy to kill the crew and prevent it from shooting at all.

Speaking of Hellcannons, there are more AoS Dwarves....CHAOS DWARVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now known as the Legion of Azgorh. I recommend them, because: Chaos.

The nice thing with the Duardin is they can make amazing gunlines and fierce melée ranks.
Although I'd imagine going off 40k may entail going off shooting.

How many points would you be looking to start with?
