Hello. New to the forum and uploading my first ever project log. Been in the hobby since rogue trader and have played space orks the entire time. My army is big and has been built up over 25years or more. What to start posting on here to get feed back and develop as a painter and modeller. Seen so many inspirational plogs on here over he years and stolen so many ideas.

When apocalypse came out I got and painted a Stompa. Since then I have improved massively as a painter and modeller and wanted to update the one I had. I first thought of adding to the old one or reprinting it but decided instead to sell it and get a new one and start from scratch.

This is the old one. I was really pleased with the checks and free hand evil sun motif but it was flat in colour and lacked tonal variation to me. It also had only limited weathering. It was also painted with GWs last generation of paints so the red was a bit dull and orangey.

The plan for the new on is to make it look more like a mobile fortress mixed with a workshop. From the front it will be all war and stuff at the back lots of work keeping it going. I don't plan any major conversion work just adding little bits to the model. Paint wise I'm thinking all red using more weathering techniques and oil paints and the like, maybe a bit of airbrushing in moderation. I will keep posting progress in the hope some one looks and has something to say (hopefully constructive). Here goes.

The first stomps looks good. It’s got a really solid base coating. Look clean and even. From the pictures maybe a wash over it and some layering highlights. Some battle damage or weathering would help break it up. But the checkers and sun look great. The pics for you next stompa all look the same to
me. Not sure if I’m missing something or the pics didn’t upload right. But from what I see it’s looking really great.

Looking good! For the platform supported by I-beams, consider adding some rivets on the right of the platform, to make it look like it's attached to the beam.

Cheers for the feed back. The old one has sold on eBay,some one has got a gaming ready Stompa, mor 45 quid! I considered washing and weathering it but liked the idea of starting over.

Rivets is a good point. Will add some. Going to add some more pics one at a time don't know what is going on uploading them.

Razor wire and spikes. This was a nightmare to do but I'm happy with the finished look.

Comparing old one to a gorkanaut that's more recent. Sorry for poor photo. Gorkanaut needs some streaking in its hull
Yet. Going to use it as a practice before doing Stompa.

Rivets added. Wanted them to look the same as the bolts so trimmed them off and re applied them. Nothing more done due to a migraine kicking in. I'm going to prime it today and build a banner to go over its right shoulder.

I like it. It's the little details that matter IMO, especially on big builds: they add a sense of scale.

Exactly. I don't want to change the model massively just add character and have people look and think, I like that bit. The current ork range all looks like it can work as well so want to carry on with that. That's why I came on here with this, hoping to get comments like above about rivets. Really made me think about how each bit is attached. Parenting got in e way a bit today so not much done.

A mock up of the banner I'm going to add

With banner. I will use heat to make the banner look like cloth. Excuse my manky thumb, got an infection in it. It's getting better.

Progress. First colours on. Pics won't show it but lots of different tones of red on the main hull. Metals are all basic and not touched yet. I will tone on to them before weathering and washing starts.

Cheers. Now adding tone and a bit of detail. Next job on the main hull is some free hand stuff before washes and oils. Stopped a bit as practicing on other stuff to get my eye in and I'm getting a steroid injection in my shoulder tomorrow which should help too. Think I need to buy some copper coloured paint too. Cheers for checking in again. Hope to get it finished before I go back to work so how the steroids go might change my rate of work!
