Anyone got an idea if epic is coming back?

No idea, we're still waiting on a re-release of Adeptus Titanicus. But you can still play Epic. Just get your hands on the lovely miniatures by Vanguard Miniatures and Onslaught Miniatures and search the online communities for rules.

At the moment? Sadly no.

The current intention is for Adeptus Titanicus to focus solely on Titans during the Heresy.

However, there is an expectation that a successful rebirth for Adeptus Titanicus will lead to full blown epic eventually, possibly inevitably so. I for one certainly live in hope!

Do keep in mind that GW's plan for the new game is that it'll be in 8mm scale rather than the traditional 6mm. On the other hand, GW's old 6mm scale was rather inconsistent: infantry often ended up being a bit bigger, vehicles were often way too small and the Titans had their own scale altogether.

Also, if you really wanna go full on and play really big battles, how about trying 3mm scale?

As Malika has said there is a thriving gaming community and third party industry for Epic. In the same way that Blood Bowl lived for many, many years before the GW re-launched the game, and will continue to do so long after GW have completed their releases, there are ongoing tournaments and rules-building communities.

Check out the Tactical Command forum webpage, there is tons of stuff on there.

It will be lovely if GW do make a new range of titans and the like, but there is nothing to stop you getting into 40k at 6mm at this very moment

The attitude of GW towards non-40k/AoS games and systems has changed completely in recent years, and Epic seems more likely to happen now.

I suspect that whenever Epic happens, it will be set in 30k as an extension to the Adeptus Titanicus system that's under development. I don't think we'll see a 40k Epic.

At the moment, Blood Bowl and Necromunda are taking up all the room in Specialist Games' release schedule. I don't expect to see new Epic (8mm) stuff before 2019.

Not mine dude

I just painted up some Vanguard 6mm in random colours to see if I could find a scheme I liked, here are some terrible photos -

Fantastic models, and very well priced. Cant wait for the super heavies that are on the way.

Wow, thanks very much, just painted them over the last couple of months. Really great models, so detailed and precise, my old Leman Russ look like they've melted in comparison.

I do have an army worked out, based on the Tallarn Armoured Regiment in IA3 Taros Campaign. However it runs to about 700 vehicles, 250 infantry bases, would fill a 6' x 4' table by itself and cost about £3,000. Need to work it down a bit

Also, does anyone know how to paint regiment, battalion, company and squadron markings on a tank 2cm long?

Hadn't seen that, very cool indeed, thanks. Lol at the stripes on the 'Sigilis', eye transplant required first.

By the way...I'm curious to see whether you could pull off doing digital camouflage on a Cybershadows Stalker (Titan proxy)...

I tried digital, or at least angular camo on a couple of the tanks. Getting the points defined enough on angles to make it look right was beyond me, wavy camo is a lot more forgiving. However the Stalker has nice big flat areas (compared to a tank) so might be doable.

I'm going to try it again when the indigogo arrives, I have 3 super heavies on the way.

Yeah as others have said Titanicus is coming this year (probably) but they've explicitly said no tanks, no infantry.

Will that lead to Epic coming back in 2019, 2020? Who knows.

But Vanguard is really good and their models are excellent so they might be worth a try.

There was also a Kickstarter for a 6mm scale Void game, Age of Tyrants? Not sure if that's still coming.

Age of Tyrants was shipping their KS recently I think, but the website doesn't look like it's been updated for some time. Not sure it will make retail.

I would also like to pitch in that 3mm might be a fun way to very quickly try out stuff like Epic without having to fully invest into complete 6mm armies and impossibly expensive eBay models.

Besides...check what you can do in 3mm...

Fantastic looking stuff there DarkJim!

Following the latest news and hints about Adeptus Titanicus I get the feeling we will see something quite different to Epic (either Epic Armageddon or Epic 40,000), with the talk of Titan personalities and them facing off against each other. So perhaps Titans on each side and support elements? Rather than armies/companies of infantry and tanks fighting each other.

But hopefully it will be some new ideas and a fun game to play by itself, and also some lovely new Titan miniatures for those who want to continue to play Epic.

Thank you Pacific, they are a pleasure to paint.

Titanicus is all about the miniatures for me, good rules would be a bonus but if they turn out rubbish, there are already great rules available. The models however ... 3 starter boxes is almost a certainty at this point (regardless of what they eventually decide to put in one), because lots of Titans.

Absolutely! My only concern with the new Titans is that they look too amazing and are scaled too large to be used with the older Titan ranges, so they end up invalidating my existing range(!)

I've been looking for Epic on the 'Bay alot over the past few weeks and there is definitely an upward trend of Epic sale prices and good deals being snapped up very quickly.

It will be interesting to see how many new players get into Epic because of the new AT game and then help to boost the player community.

They definitely won't fit with your existing Titans in terms of scale. And looking at where GW are these days in terms of detail on plastic kits, I suspect there'll be clear aesthetic differences (didn't want to say improvements. Sometimes less is more!)

I firmly believe that Epic will come along in time. Either as an expansion to Adeptus Titanicus, or as a separate game.

Really depends on how AT actually plays. If there's a good deal of resource management going on (managing plasma reactors, keeping an eye on ammo, trying to keep the Titan itself in check) then infantry faffage could well detract from that. And if so, I can see the same models being used across two games - AT for highly detailed 'piloting a Titan is hardwork' games, Space Marine/Epic for 'and this is how you pretend you're a World War One General, desperate to locate his drinks cabinet 6" closer to Berlin' games.

The return of Epic?

I hope so!

And I hope AT is the first step on that road.

AS for Pacific's Avatar?

Feel free to PM him with the question - yeah?

About this last point (well not the very last - about that yes you are right mate, well spotted! ) definitely think you are correct and I think this is why I can't see infantry/tank company rules coming along with this game. Having control over an individual unit to that level smacks of a skirmish game. That's brilliant if that's what it sets out to do, but you can't then extend that over large numbers of very different unit types without creating a very slow game.
Anyone who has ever tried to play Infinity with 15+ minis, or played at the end of a Necromunda campaign when the gangs start to turn into small Imperial Guard armies, will know what I mean about that.

But - I love the sound of what's been mentioned so far. It will hopefully be a great game in its own right that captures a really evocative part of 40k fiction, and won't cause a schism within the Epic gaming community by producing a new set of rules that everyone will then disagree about playing/not playing in place of NetEA or Net Epic.
And we will hopefully have some lovely new titans to play with (even if they do make the turtle-back Warlords look ugly - although to be fair think that came to pass about 20 years ago )

Always been a fan of the ‘Beetle Back’ Warlord.

Whilst the first metal one was awful, the last one (Epic 40k/Armageddon version) was a really nice model, but for me, just didn’t sit that well in the wider 40k aesthetic.

I expect I'll be able to get my game, Titanomachia, into print before GW takes a risk on Adeptus Titanicus. I can see why they might be pushing back the release, given how they have so much with broader appeal, but given the number of giant robot games in recent years I think they're underestimating demand.

All the more reason to push to plastic now, rather than later.

Need more plakky? Just fire up the machine and pump in those pellets.

Resin? Awful lot harder to ramp up to meet demand. Or some I'm told!

There's also a matter of planning. They have a really broad range of products, and their print-on-demand model is already putting a lot of stock out of stock while they catch up with demand. I wish I had that problem!
