So this is a scheme I've been tinkering with on-and-off for at least a few years now. I finished this dude this evening - What do you think?

My army is going to have a bit of a nautical theme, with lots of raiders (My archon is going to be somewhere between Captain Ahab - hence the ivory - and Coleridge's Ancient Mariner - hence the bird skull, though in future I'll probably only put those on trueborn, characters, and maybe any minis that do cool stuff in game. This guy got one because I mangled his shoulder pad because I'm a dumb-dumb)

I might try weathering too, if I feel brave, but it'll be just sponging on a bit of rhinox hide maybe with a few streaks and splodges.
I'm also thinking of putting some guiliman blue over the black - will this do anything at all, or nah?
Thanks for looking!

Not sold on the brass for the dagger. Should I do all the metals the same as the colour I use on the rifle?

Looks really good, love it. The brass on the knife looks good. The hazard stripes on the base don't work very well (they look really off for some reason). Overall, it's fantastic. At a second glance I think the bases need to be a different colour though - they very much blend in with the miniature. Maybe beaten copper or dark metal?

Thanks man!
The reason they look off is because I haven't finished them yet. As it is right now, the lines are shockingly rough, and there isn't even a wash on the base. I'm going to tidy it all up more at a later date. Painting hazard stripes into a deep grille underneath a mini with a tabard is a real challenge, and probably not one I'm going to repeat any time soon - I'll definitely check out your ideas tho! Thank you!

Ah, okay. Then yeah, base-unfinished I think he looks superb. And very refreshing to not see anothe dark purple or dark green Dark Eldar model.

Love the color scheme and the theme. For the name, perhaps "Kabal of the Infinite Fathoms" or "Kabal of the Abyssal Darkness"? Something that's both spacey AND nautical...

Like it! A very different theme for dark eldar. Concept sounds good as well. I want a peg leg though...
In any case, keep going and sharing! I can't wait to see a ship themed raider (maybe harpoon type guns?)

Keeping the hobby side alive!

The model and colour scheme look great!

The only suggestion I'd make is that I'd love to see what the helmet looks like in a contrasting colour to break up the armour, maybe matching the knife would look cool? And the base, it doesn't say "Drukhari" to me. But those are just personal tastes.

I've just noticed the black under armour. I've been considering doing the same on my Guardians and I think you've just made my mind up - looks cool.

Ooh, those are good. I'd been focusing more on revenge and harpoons so far, but I like the idea of something more seafaring-y. I should probably decide what the white whale is going to be too - the obvious choice is a slaneshii daemon, but I kind of like the idea of the Void Whales. In a kind of Eldar-y way, it would make them feel aloof and apart from the cosmic squabble for the galaxy if their sole purpose was revenge against a single megalithic creature, rather than an entire faction.

Cheers! Rest assured, there will be harpoons and lances galore (once I get some more bits), and my archon's gotta have a peg leg for sure!

Thanks for the input! In future, I'll probably have a few armor sections/plates painted khorne red too. I kept the helmet pale because the first time I tried this scheme out, like 2 years ago, I stuffed it up when I went overboard highlighting the helmet, so I was keen to get it right the first time with this guy.

As for the base, when I finish it, I might put some blood spatters on? I like the idea that the Dark Eldar are raiders, so wherever they're fighting would be on the enemy's turf, taking captives, gathering information and then moving on.

Not the first time the base has been raised as an issue tho, so I think I'll have a bit of an examination of that. Thanks guys!

The (3) rd photo in the series is my personal favorite.

While my color schemes usually include a vibrant array of colors that I almost feel forced to use... this work shows a very awesome and clean way of making 'grey' look bad ass.

Blue will definitely work well with the grey however what you've done looks table top ready to me!

I know personally how painful DE eyes and edge highlighting could be but you've done a really nice job here.

Also enjoy the caution/hazard yellow black combo on the base. Sweet job ! Keep on pumping them Kabalites !

More stuff!

So, a couple of things this time! First up, I've finished my warlock/wraithseer guy. (not his base though, I'm still hesitating over those)
He was kind of a test subject for the colour scheme. I'm pretty pleased with him, though I've decided to drop the gold/brass colour and stick to the kind of mucky brass that you can see here for all metals.
In future, mostly for hair etc. on unhelmeted minis, I was thinking of adding dark purple to the pallet - Thoughts? I know everything is still quite dark and muted right now, but I quite like the overall effect.
I was also wondering if a blue glaze might make his robes a bit more interesting?
I think I played with some glazes in GW Hull like 3 years ago when I started my Black Templars, but my worthless inexperienced modeler's eyes couldn't really tell any difference at the time. Am I right in thinking anything you wash/glaze over black just gets swallowed up by how dark black is?

Additionally, a group shot of the army at the moment. It's so craftworld heavy because I bought these when they did the made to order thing, and decided to get the goody-two-shoes eldar urges out of my system. Might pick up a few wraith thingys in future though, but from here on out, we're straight Dark Eldar.
Except for the ynari boxset, that's nice.
And maybe some harlequins too.
Oh god, call the inquisition!

Also, you can see my attempt at basing Illic Nightspear. I'll probably just run him as a plain spaghetti ranger, but I've decided the Eldar ruins don't fit with my 'raiding-an-imperial-city' basing theme.
Which throws me the conundrum of how to keep him clambering over stuff.
I cobbled this together from my (mostly admech) bits box, but I'm not totally happy with it just yet - any ideas? I'm out in the styx here a bit, though there's a modeling shop locally for gundam stuff, and there's an official tamiya store and gundam base in Gimhae and Busan respectively that I could possible peruse for materials...

Anyhow, thanks for looking, C+C always appreciated.
(Still not thought of a name for my kabal...)

Also, anyone know how to deal with kabalite shoulder pads? Like is there a way of just making them fit together nicely without the groove and the notch at the joins, beyond using epoxy?

Here's a quick update for all of you, and a special treat for those avid Poser McBogus fans who've been following my misadventures! (Hello... anyone..?)
Here's the skin tone I think I'm gonna go with for the Dark Eldar.
I ramble at length about what I'm going for over on this thread https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/688615.page
I'm more or less happy with the results, I've got a couple of test minis in the works atm, and I've primed all the models I have for this army.

Thanks for looking!

Lordy, I haven't painted any pirate space elves in a whole long while!

Got a fella finished as a little palette cleanser while I hammer out my marine transports and tanks.
I was put off keeping my Dark Eldar going by my experiments with skin tone. I have a couple of models that will never shame me by showing their faces here (without a dettol bath, anyway!), and had kinda burned out on this project for a while, but I'm feeling a bit better about 'em now. Painting faces is still something I struggle with a bit

Additionally, I've experimented a little more, I washed the black parts with Guilliman blue. I think it's maybe a little vibrant, but I don't hate it, so it might become a fixture?
Also! I'm thinking of doing blood spatters on everything? Kinda like they've just struck an imperial civilian center, and are scything through and causing havock. Anyone know a decent way of doing that?

Cheers for looking!

The colour scheme is crazy-good, understated yet effective.

Really like the cool bone you've gone for on your DE, seeing as you're going for nautical vibes, have you considered the AoS Deepkin bits?

Thanks very much! I'm still muddling through getting the hang of colour theory and custom schemes, while keeping things nice and subtle! Zarakynel is an interesting one, I don't dislike the idea of hunting a single greater daemon at all...

Cheers very much! And I absolutely have! I'm still kind of shopping about for bits I really like, and I'm not averse to plundering the odd character...
I've got my eyes on Mistweaver Saith for my albatross at the moment - I'm thinking of maybe having a troupe of Harlies guide them through the warp/webway, like the albatross in Rime, but those Deepkin are real tempting too!

Hahaha if unfinished models annoy you then you would hate my project Blog.

For the moment be happy about the absolutely gorgous models you painted there.

Space marine transports? What space marine transports?

I got this mini waayyyyyyy back to help me hammer out my colour scheme - just as I've decided I'm happy with what I've come up with, I've finished her! This was also the point at which I decided I would never buy finecast eldar again. I had a real struggle with my rangers, but the amount of detail that was straight up obliterated on this Lhamean was appalling.
And I'm a finecast apologist! I think for minis the size of marines and larger, it's pretty reliable (to be fair, much simpler shapes), but I've yet to get a single eldar model that isn't in need of some pretty severe work, unfortunately.
Anyway, enough rambling, here's some piccys before I go to the pub!

Cheers for all the kind comments fellas!
