So now that the new LoW rules allow us to field Macharius Tanks, what are people's thoughts on using these units in 30k? While the Regular and Vanquisher versions seem O.K., but don't really bring much that Malcadors don't already (except a single Vanquisher shot) I'm more interested in the ultility of the Vulcan and Omega (if you can find one) patterns. Since Macharius tanks are only 6HP you can fit two in a LoW slot which can make things interesting.

I think that the Vulcan can certainly provide good utility vs marine hordes, or even Mechanicus MC since most are only 3+. Space marine crew upgrade can really make the most of the ability to churn out up to 30 S6 AP3 shots a turn, and with 60" range it can reach out and touch mostly anything on the standard table. The big issue I see is that the Vulcan cannot hurt AV13+ which in 30k can be a big deal so the rest of your list will have to compensate for that.

The Omega (which despite its 86ing by FW can still be found, and even lends itself for some fun conversion opportunities)on the other hand is slightly cheaper but has more utility vs elite units and tanks. It has two firing modes, Pulsed which is 60" S7 AP2 Ordnance 3, Large Blast (5"), Primary weapon. This seems like a great option for slicing through large squads of terminators, and with S7, AP2 and Ordnance seems like a good options for taking on masses of tanks since it can even glance AV13. Also with 3 shots it's should be good for smaller tough squads like Mechanicus units. Its secondary firing mode, Maximal, is 72" S9 AP2 Ordnance 1, Massive Blast (7"), Primary Weapon, Gets Hot!. This large plasma blast would be great for taking out large concentrations of tank squadrons or troops, but even so it won't be penetrating flareshielded tanks from the front anytime soon.

So overall it seems like both have a place, but the Omega might have more utility than the Vulcan. I think the Vulcans best use it putting tons of wounds on MC units, or supporting armies without much AP3 like Imperialis Militia, or even Solar Auxilia. What do you think?

The only Monsterous Creatures in the Horus Heresy are Primarchs, Mechanicum, and the odd Daemon that you might see (but the Daemon rules are so jacked and weird in HH that I'm unsure if you can even bring a Greater Daemon...). The Vulcan might only be of good use versus a Mechanicum army. A Primarch has such good saves and can sluff off so many wounds... trying to shoot one to death is difficult.

Popping Light Tanks is hardly an issue in HH, but popping AV 14 Void Shielded Spartans are. Or Daredoes and Levithathans. Or even the Fellblades and Baneblades variants (as we are talking LOW choices here).

These tanks are all good though, and would definitely have a place in any army if you can find them.

Even so, the Vulcan could forced failures on a Primarch and his squad just through sheer weight of attacks, but like you said that assumes you have taken something that can blow up the spartan in the first place. Once relieved of their transport a Primarch becomes less scary in general but like I said above, the Vulcan won't be the tank to do it.

To be fair there is only really 3 things that deal with a spartan well. Falchion, Lightnings and Venators.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

Because they're a principally infantry army for the most part and my Vulcan Macharius with hvy bolter sponsons and front arc autocannon upgrade is going to eat swathes of them, especially Dank Furies.
