Hey guys!

Locally the game has been picking up steam and today I've been tempted into purchasing my first minis. I used to have a very large Harad & Umbar / Easterling Kindgoms alliance which I sold many many years ago.

With the game picking up speed and my utter for Lord of the Rings being untouched for a long while I've decided to jump back in. I'm going be rocking some Isengard goodness, because Urak-Hai are my second favourite from from the whole LOTR universama (War Mumak being my first!)

I got my first box of Urak-Hai warriors on route to me and I'm very excited to paint them

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

awesome! I had spent the entire past weekend painting myself. wife, kid, and I had a quite weekend so i was able to get two heroes, 4 crossbowmen, 12 pikemen, and 12 sword & board warriors down. once you find the right color scheme for them assembly line painting makes it pretty easy considering they are all uniform in look.

make sure you paint hands on the shields!

ogryn flesh: like beer goggles for miniatures.

Saruman, Isengard, and the Uruk-Hai are all my favs from LOTR. To that effect I have a huge painted Isengard army with like a couple hundred Uruks in it, plus Orthanc...

So my first game is a 300 point game, it'll my first game ever and it's much more to learn the rules and understand how it all works more then anything

I threw together a list, I don't want it to be competitive I just want it to be at least cohesive to help me pick the rules up

Vrasku

4 Urak Hai with Crossbows
4 Urak Hai Scouts with Orc Bows

Urak Hai Captain - Heavy Armour, Two handed weapon

5 Urak Hai with Pikes
5 Urak Hai with Shields

It's 300 on the head

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

If I were you, I would swap the Uruk scouts with bows for Scouts with shields - otherwise, you'll be over the 33% bow limit. Otherwise, it's a small but punchy force, and I think you'll have a lot of fun with it.

Remember, your Uruk Hai with crossbows still have a melee weapon, and have the stats of an Uruk Hai warrior, so don't be too worried about keeping them out of close combat - Crossbows are awesome, so you want them shooting as long as possible, but don't be afraid to throw them into the melee if a few extra bodies will swing the fight your way.

I'd also be inclined to go 6/4 on shields/pikes, rather than 5/5, but that's really only the kind of minor tweak you can make after you get the hang of the game.

Best of luck with your first game!

Hey man thank you, I totally forgot about the bow limit.

I decided to end on this (Purely through easy of ordering items as I can use everything that comes in the boxes)

Ugluk (Hero)
5 Urak-Hai with Pike
5 Urak-Hai with Shields
2 Urak-Hai Berserkers

Vrasku (Hero)
4 Urak-Hai with Crossbows

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

You're very welcome - I'm still guilty of forgetting the bow limit as well on occasion, and I've been playing since 2007!

The second list is nice, Berserkers are lovely models and they do what they're supposed to - tank hits and kill stuff.

Ugluk is cool, if you go on to higher points games, you might consider adding a few expendable orcs to hang around him for his Head-taking rule, as it's better to execute a cheap Orc than an expensive Uruk!

Your Ugluk/Vrasku list is mighty fine!

I find that Vrasku & Crossbowmen should deploy in a good spot and remain stationary for the first 3 turns or so, then just charge in to start beating people. Vrasku's double shots at shoot 3+ and 3 might mean he'll probably kill one model per turn. Don't spend might to hit models, it's always better to spend might to kill models. He should hit, and strength 4 means you'll kill most models on a 4 or a 5. Once he's depleted 2 or all 3 of his might killing models from afar, send him into combat to mop up!

I concur with adding a couple orc chumps to cower around Ugluk. Might be worth finding an orc or two with spears just for that purpose. Support him and then he can behead them!

When you expand to 400 or 500 points, I'd say purchase a box of Scouts and Mauhur - 8" move Scouts are nuts! Uruk scouts are still F4 and S4, and Mauhur is a beast with three attacks.

A commanders set is essential as well, in my opinion. a Banner for Uruks is vital for those Duel dice re-rolls, and the War-Drum (which is in the FAQ btw, be sure to download that!) is absolutely fantastic, giving your Uruks a +3" move. You'll have armored formations flying around the table.
