Decided after getting a pretty large amount of isengard, that I needed some good guys to go against them, and it would help to show people the game when it gets more attention later this year.

Went with Rivendell as ive always perfered the high elves to wood elves.

Are the spearmen with shields worth it? Or a better question is are they a solid troop force to use? I have a ton of bow and sword, just no shield with spear. they are on the more expensive side of things is why I ask

Yes, I think so.

Don't forget, the High Elf Warrior can have both a Shield and an Elven Blade. What many people often do is make a quick mold (greenstuff mold for example) and make some copies of the shield that comes with the Spearman, and glue that to the backs of the plastic Elves with Blades. Often you'll find you would rather have the higher Defense when you're closing with the enemy (to shrug off shooting attacks) so the shield is worth it for your dudes with Elven Blades.

But, yes, spearmen are always worth the support dice. Your elves are elite - twice the cost of an orc - so you want to give them extra dice. And plant a banner nearby for that vital re-roll!

What size force are you looking to put together for Rivendell?

Realistically,

I got back in LOTR for battle companies as I know a friend who has lots of angmar and figured hed play.

Giant Isengard army later, I decided to get a good guy force aswell to play the SBG game with and show anyone whos interested in it.

I got knights, Elrond, his sons, glorfindel, captians, banners, 44 spearmen, and more archers/swordsmen then I could count.

I will need to look into how I can make a mould of the shield so I can give it to sword guys

Rivendel armies can be pretty tough with their kick ass heroes. You should have more than enough there for most points levels.

I'd recommend maxing out on bows, then using mostly spear and shield troops with the occasional swordsman for a well placed 2 handed strike.

The Twins and Glorfindel are really great for their points, while poor old Elrond will rarely make his back. Erestor is also not be underestimated as the recent Clash of Heroes has proven. He is a very competent hero and low cost by high elf standards allowing you more troops.

A full rivendel knight army is considered one of the strongest builds in the game, especially when supported by a wizard (Saruman or Gandalf on horse) due ti high mobility and the pretty grim combo of fight 5 and a lance on the charge. having 100% bow limit is also pretty handy to keep your opponent in check.
