oh and, i know its a tad late but with the venerable dreadnought, i thought you would of painted the eagle across the chest white (like the eagles on the chest for the terminators, SM etc).. i think it would look better imo
Yeah, but the way I do command is in my army, is anyone sgt rank or in the honour guard, has a gold chest eagle. Everyone else gets the black/white eagles.
Hence being venerable, Thule earned the honor of a gold eagle, not a white one.

OK, one question... er, three.
How do you get the black trim on the white helmets? Do you use a pen or paint? Is it before or after the white layers? I'm having trouble getting such consistency on my white helmets, and your's look pristine.

Its painted, and its before.
I just leave the blane line and paint around it.
At the helmets are actually bleached bone, highlighted with white.
I go.
Black undercoat -> Deneb Stone -> Bleached bone (maybe 3-4 thin layers) _> highlight in 50/50 Bone/White then a final highlight of pure white.

So....so....so.... you're tellin' me you paint 3 layers like that?! And never touch the black?! Wow. Your lines are really good. I'm working on trying to paint straight lines but they always bulge. Any tricks to keeping them so even?
PS - thanks for the insight.

Keeper of the Holy Relics. Counts as Vulkan He’stan
Charged with finding the most secret and forbidden of technological artifacts from the Dark Times before the coming of the Emperor. Also charged with guarding all the chapter sacred weapons.
When he marches to battle, he hands out these weapons of war to his battle brothers, equipping them well for the trials and tribulations ahead. he himself carries several ancient weapons, whose secrets of construction are long since lost.
Next, some photos of my current comission peice, a Crimson Fist Command Squad. Comments welcome.
Finally a Khador Destroyer from Warmachine. Painted for table top play.
Time to paint: 3 hours.

The Vulkan count as is incredible. The cyber raven is a nice touch too, in gaming terms I guess you could use it to explain digital weapons.
So not only does he look fantastic, hes even more WYSIWYG than the GW model!

Thanks for the kind words, all.
In the end I was only so-so Satisifed with He'stans paint job...feels really barely table top quality...I'll try and do better on my next model.
Once my Sanguinary Guard arrive, I will start work on some Blood Angels as a side project. Should I undercoat them white or black?
Can people link me to some great examples of both schemes?

Just some of the choice shots of my Blood Ravens yesterday at a local gaming club. Played 2 games, against Tyranids and Tau. Both were draws, but the second only because we had to pack up and go home on turn 3.
"Brothers, war calls. Will you answer?"
Octavian (Counts as Cato Sicarius) and this terminator unit would kill A Carnifex, 14 genestealers and a Hive Tyrants plus 3 Tyrant Guard by games end. Octavian himself scoring the bloe on the Hive Tyrant with a Coup De Grace
A missile launcher tactical marines POV of the battle.
They came....from....behind!
"Even in Death i Still Serve"
"Ouch"
An epic dual between Brother Thule and a Trygon prime. And yes, that dice is the Tyrgon prime's wounds taken. in the end they would both destroy each other at the same time, like truly bitter foes.

Major ocular orgasm coming off of me looking through this blog. Such awesomesauce... the sculpting is one thing, but I must say, something of the most attractive with your miniatures is the highlights. I've started working with highlights and am starting to come to the realisation that it's half the miniature's paintjob. And you, good sir, have, I think, the best highlighting I 'ere ever seen!

Hey all.
I come before you to make something of a confession. Something I've wanted to reveal for a while now.
About 14 months ago when I started this thread I was in a pretty lonely and depressed state. I'd been living as a foreign national by myself for over 2 years in japan, and I hadn't had a real life friend in all that time in this country.
I dont know if any of you have ever lived overseas but the isolation, especially when there is a language barrier can be pretty overwhealming. I was feeling pretty alone, devoid of human contact.
I tell you this because I want to give you something of a background....
Now here is my confession. I played Warhammer a bit when I was a child. I bought my first box set in 2nd edition. Well, I should say my father bought it. I stopped playing around year 9, in High school. I didn't touch them again until I was 23, and I played some games again with some people I met at Uni in the roleplaying club.
I played there on and off for about a year again, and then drifted into wow and Magic The Gathering.
After that, I didn't see Warhammer again until last year.
I don't know why, when I made this thread, I said I had never played Warhammer before. I guess, being stuck overseas, so far from all my family and friends for long made me crave human contact and attention for so long I wanted to feel a little special.
I really regret saying that in my first post, something i've regretted for about 12 or 13 months now, and after some prodding by an IRL friend who came accross this forum, I just knew I had to finally tell everyone.
It's been a real weight around my neck, and I feel so bad.
Like I said, I was just really isolated and totally cut off living over here in Japan as an English speaker, but that's not excuse, really
If people feel this invalidates all my work, and my thread, I can understand. I will close the thread and vannish into the dust, never to be seen again.
I don't know why I did what I did, but I regret it immensly, but regret doesn't change anything.
Everyone here has been my inspiration, my muse. I'd never have gotten my blood ravens the way they are without your help. I feel I've come so far in such a short period of time, because of your help.
But in the end, that doesnt matter, does it? I lied, whatever the reasons for it, it was the wrong thing to do. There's no justification except to accept my punishment.
I'll be happy to close this thread and go away, if that's what people want.
I am truly, sorry.
Roleplayer.

Dude, why does it matter if you played as a kid or not...you are a talented painter, that's all that matters. Dakka is about showing your figs to the world, and gaining inspiration and/or help along the way. Just keep going with this cos its something very special.
And there was me thinking you were gonna say that you were actually Michelle Obama painting under a false identity
