Hello everyone! A long time ago I used to play 40K 3rd edition, then life and having kids happened and all my hobbies went away. My son is now 10 so I dug my models out of the cellar, dusted them off, and looked to see what the state of 40K game was. 8th edition! My goodness! I'm quite impressed with this ruleset, and I'm glad I chose now to get back into it. If I had chosen this time last year I would have been investing in 7th edition, which from what I can gather was quite bloated and complicated at that point. The Open Play and Power Level of 8th edition was perfect for introducing my son to the game.

I first got into GW games with 1st edition Space Hulk and Advanced Space Crusade (1989, 1990!) I really liked those genestealers and tyranid warriors, so tyranids became my main army when I started on 40K. I have all kind of weird Rogue Trader-era models acquired in the early 90s.

Welcome my friend- sounds like we're the same sort of vintage, Space Crusade was my gateway drug all those years ago too..

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hello and welcome to Dakka!

7th edition was a bloated mess that I would never recommend a 10-year-old play, but 8th is much simpler and more streamlined. I think it's a nice game for kids to get into, and I think you and your son may enjoy it a lot.

Have fun with your old minis, lots of people love to see those!

Thanks everyone, I will try and upload some photos of the "vintage" models (although my painting skill back then wasn't so good!)
