CREEEEEEEEED’s true tourney
40k TM In some of the discussions surrounding soup and balance, I’ve seen it said that once upon a time there was a tournament with just the basic space marine units. It seems to me that would actually be a great way of eliminating the balance issues in the game to a great extent, making this a version of the game where your strategy and tactics is what matters, not your power-gaming list. This does of course remove all the flavour, making the game much more like chess than an unbalanced rough approximation of a battle between humanity and evil xenos.
CREEEEEEEEED’s true tourney
40k TM is played using CREEEEEEEEED’S Patrol Detachment
TM, attached below, at the 1000-point limit on a 6’x4’ table for 5 turns. Relics and warlord traits are in use.
CREEEEEEEEED’s true tourney
40k TM is also played with CREEEEEEEEED’s true tourney
40k Terrain Rules
TM. These are as follows:
Terrain can either block line of site (e.g. a hill, cliff or ruined wall) or it can confer +1 to a unit’s armour save.
Terrain that confers +1 to a model’s save can be either area terrain (e.g. buildings, forests, anything really with a clearly defined base area) or barricades (if a barricade blocks
LOS completely, it is not a barricade, a good approximation is shoulder height). To benefit from area terrain, a model must have its base wholly within the base of the area terrain. To benefit from barricades, a model must be within 2” of the barricade, and the benefits of barricade cover only apply when being fired at from the other side of the barricade. If unsure, take your measuring tape, and place it between the closest model firing to the model taking the save. If the measuring tape does not pass over the barricade, the benefits do not apply.
Vehicles receive +1 to their save when wholly in area terrain, or when at least half the model is blocked from
LOS.
There should be at least 5 pieces of area terrain (depending on the size of said area terrain and your own preference) and barricades to your own preference.
Units cannot pass through walls (barricades do not count). Terrain does not affect movement statistics for Infantry. Ascending a floor takes 3” movement. Vehicles cannot ascend floors, and take a 3” penalty to movement when moving though area terrain.
The missions that can be played (roll a d3 or choose) are as follows:
1 –
Area control There is a single objective in the centre of the board. Each player then sets up an objective in their own deployment zone. Whoever controls each objective at the end of the game receives the corresponding victory points, 3VPs for the central objective, 3VPs for your opponent’s objective, 1VP for controlling your own. 1VP is available for Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker and First Blood
2 - T
actical Decimation Each
HQ, Elite, and Heavy Support is worth 2VP when the unit is completely destroyed. Each Dedicated Transport is worth 1VP when killed. 2VP is available for Slay the Warlord. 1
