I've been tinkering with a few pure Sisters lists (see my sig) but as more codexes roll out, my local meta keeps getting tougher. Sisters don't scale well beyond 1000 points or so with their current rules, and Scions fill a nice role in the army with good range, good rate of fire, and good board control potential. I also love the fluff vibe of Stormtroopers, especially Inquisitorial Stormtroopers from the Witchhunters era, and the Guard codex served up some great relics, orders, and strategems I wanted to cash in on. I got some great feedback on this list from the SoB Tactica thread and played it once against GSC. It performed really well, so here it use for further critique.

EDIT 4/19/18: I've shifted this list in a new direction... I was really happy with the composition and unit diversity I had achieved, but I had been running Brigade+Battalion+Vanguard for the extra CP. With the post-FAQ CP boost I've dropped the Sororitas contingent from Brigade to Battalion to add some points and some flexibility, and I think I like it. It doesn't screen as well as it used to, but with the revised DS rules, I think I can survive it.

Tactical Summary: There's a Celestine/Bullgryn/Inquisitor/Priest/Acolyte bomb which, if it can cross the table, should deliver plenty of high S attacks with rerolls and awesome saves. The Sisters bring some distraction Immolators, some Vanguard Meltaguns, the "Seraphim Catapult" (T1 melta-rule range with AoFs) and the "Canoness Castle" (Heavy Bolters, rerolls, and AoFs for extra shooting phases). The Scions, even dropping on T2, should be able to use Orders, Relics, and Doctrines for a potent beta strike, and the Volley Gun Command may just deploy with a Prime on T1 for an extra round of shooting if the targets are there. Greyfax offers psychic defense and maybe a Smite or two. Overall it feels diverse, yet well-rounded, potentially surprising to an opponent, and fun to play for me.

Can't comment about the Scions but Sisters I know. If I run storm Bolters with sisters it is generally having 2 BSS squads (w/ 3 Storm Bolters each) inside a Repressor basically making it a mobile fire base. In my opinion there is no reason to waste the potential of Dominions on Storm Bolters when your regular Sisters can do it just as well. Rest of the list looks like a solid gun line. Personally I'd drop the PE and get another squad of Rets.

Yep, I agree on all those points. When I run a pure Sisters Brigade I do as you've said with stormbolters. With these I'm experimenting with pushing the 10 stormbolters up the table with a Vanguard and Advancing the Canoness behind them for the aura. The jury is still out, but I think I like the turn 1 rapid fire, 40 shots with rerolls.

I have a third squad of HB Rets on my wish list, but that's nearly $100. The PE is amusing in the meantime, but ultimately you're right on picking up a third. Sisters are just too good at that game.

I know this is mainly for your local store, but generally speaking (for tournies) a 2k list is 3 detachments max, so just on the principle of practicing with compositions that you can take in those constraints, it might be worth trying to consolidate.

You'll have to 'burn' 180 points to drop in 4 for sisters squad, but considering you're going to have access to Astra strategems with tempestus battalion, it might be worth it to jump your CP up from 3 to 9 (for the sisters contribution). Astra stratagems (esp. if you have a bunch of CP to spare) are crazy good. Also, for Kurov's Aquilla to keep working for you, that officer needs to stay alive, so I hope you're not Deep striking him into the thick of things :-)

Yeah, this is for club play, so no such restrictions (no Forge World with this group, though). These detachments merge at the cost of 1 CP if somebody isn't comfortable with it. I believe I lose access to special rules if a build Scions into mixed detachment... or are you suggesting that I try to squeeze a Sisters Brigade and a Scions Battalion out of this? I'll have to see if that can even be done.

Good point about the Aquila. When I've played this list, I dropped the plasma command and one of the plasma squads "into the thick of it" and the other plasma squad and the volley gun squad on a flank or back corner. They managed to not be anyone's hugest prioriry. That relic hasn't made its CP back yet, mainly due to dice, but his exposure is scary.

Thanks for the insights, please keep them coming!

Yeah, I'm saying try for a Sisters Brigade and Scions Battalion. Should totally be possible in the points. You'll start with 15 CP or so.

I would start immediately and aggressively using them., as getting 1/3rd back means you have effectively 20. Drop preliminary bombardment for 2cp and get some mortal wounds dealt before the game begins. Possible spend 1cp for an extra relic and make your other Scions character super durable.

Use superior Intelligence anytime someone deep strikes or outflanks near your scions. You'll hit at -1, but that's still way better than overwatch shooting.

Grenadiers can be a great surprise with Scions, when you hurl a squad full of D3 damage krak grenades at a tank/monster.

Lastly Martyrdom can be a great way to sting back when you lose a Cannoness or Celestine. I've seen it catch people off guard a couple times now.

Seriously, one of the best things about Imperial Soup, is Spamming strategems. I always optimize for starting with 13-15.

Okay, I'm convinced to at least give it a shot... I'll add the list above when I get a chance. I'm pretty committed to the Sisters relic too, so I might have to spring for the extra relic stratagem. Thanks for the suggestions!

Okay, I'm kind of pumped for Antonhand's suggestions, but I need help balancing out the last few points. I added the new list (Brigade + Battalion) to the original post. The 2 detachments are manageable, but I'm quite a few points over and need to cut.

Areas where I could juggle to get below 2K: drop the Scion Command, swing the Aquila into my backfield, and try to have one Prime cover orders for the 3-unit drop; swap melta Doms in an Immo for another unit of Seraphim; drop a Gemina... probably something else I'm not seeing.

It also points out that I need six more stormbolters, 4 more heavy bolters, and another unit of converted inferno Seraphim. C'mon, plastics, don't make me hold out...

Swap the penitent engine for rets w HB?
That is 35p in difference exactly.
A bit of a shame, as the penitent engine is cool, but I do not think it will harm your list.

That's easy enough that I felt the need to price them out. 65ish if I include a stormbolter for the Superior and ship to GW for free. I'm not sure if I should add stormbolters or heavy bolters first, because to do both would be well over $100.

If I drop the Scions down to the plasma squads and scrub the Command, I think I can still get all three proofed against plasma with the "extra order" relic. I'll make the changes up in the original post... I think it leaves plenty for me to round out the stormbolters in the BSS squads.

Okay, I think I like the look of the 1997 list in the top post. Gotta work it just right to have 1 Prime handle all the orders, but with Aquila hiding out I should have the CP to cover any gaps.

I really like the third list in the top post... I'm interested in how the strategy of running no armor and no walkers will fare in terms of making it hard for my opponent's AT to earn its points back.

I'm also not sure what to do with the Acolytes... I brought them for the extra CP (to help cover the cost of the relics up front), and I've got them in pairs to make it slightly harder to give up first blood, lose a screen, deny me an objective, etc. The alternative would be to run them as solo models and give them some wargear and a purpose... plasma guns, flamers, etc.

The anti tank will target the Bullgryns. Against a mech list you will struggle, especially if your min squads of Seraphim get targeted early.

Two good points for sure, and scary ones. The Bullgryns are vulnerable, and this isn't a ton of melta. It is roughly the same melta volume as the mech lists I used to run, but the range and resiliency are worse. I guess that's the cost of getting a full brigade plus Scions plus Inquisitors.

I'm going to run this list next week with a few proxies (my Inferno conversions are looking good but the heavy bolters I bought aren't going to work. I'll post outcomes

So, it was an interesting game vs. GSC. His army was Magus, Primarch, cultists, 60 Purestrains, a Sentinel and a Baneblade.

The psychic phase was mostly denials and a little smiting, nothing outrageous. The Bullgryns didn't do much after I shielded them a little too well from the Baneblade. Taking first turn and using drop Scions to pin his cult ambush back was the key, the rest was limiting multicharges and consolidation moves. Two squads of Seraphim with Infernos took out the Baneblade in a single turn with some help from the heavy bolters.

So, nothing too shocling in this game... range management and board control were the keys this time.

Here's a new structure post-FAQ... I changed the FoC structure to make use of more plentiful CPs, and I really like this build. Comments most welcome...

I'll be taking the Witchhunters list for my weekend outing... might be against Newcrons, maybe AdMech or Death Guard... not sure. I'll report back, but I'm pretty pumped for my post FAQ adjustments. The Emperor protects!

The Witchhunters got a solid win against Orks tonight... I tabled my opponent in Turn 4 and was up on points to boot. The Bullgryns were the MVPs, taking on Warbikes, Nobs, Bosses, and 30 Boyz before going down. Despite never making a successful charge, they held the center while I maneuvered on the flanks. Celestine's buff to their armor saves is incredible for the points. I missed having 2 units of mechanized Dominions, but the Scions helped account for my opponent's heavier units. Those 51-point units with 3 Stormbolters are great for the points. My opponent brought no psykers, so Greyfax didn't really shine, but the Ordo Xenos re-rolls from the rest of the detachment were great.
