I am wondering in regards to the lore if it has been developed yet. What is the relationship between Primaris and normal space marines? Not so much whether they are accepted but in terms of like respect. Afterall, given that Primaris are so much larger and stronger would they look down on a space marine? Maybe even a higher rank Space Marine. It's also odd to think how it'd look if a chapter master conversed with a Primaris marine.

OOF.

Might as well just ask here, but what if GW started releasing "Primaris" models for all factions (please don't laugh) that are somewhat popular. We could have Primaris Orks which are just "greener". We could have Primaris Eldar which are just "more pointy", but regardless of whatever gakky explanation they come up with, do you think there would be a valid reason for revising the model lines like this? I don't think anyone would have had an issue with Primaris marines if they just came out and said "all lore is still true, but we're just revising the classic SM design". I don't think anybody would have raged so hard that way. Maybe I'm just rambling on a dead thread, but I would like to see this approach to other factions too, HOWEVER ONLY FOR AESTHETIC REVISION, NOT ADDITION TO CURRENT LORE. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MURDER ME DAKKADAKKA, I KNOW OKAY?

not likely no, subtle changes to a line do occur over time (compare just about any mini to it's old rogue trader or 2nd edition equivilant) Primaris Marines where not simply an attempt to redo marine apperiances (it may have played a part of it) Primaris Marines where also an attempt to, leave standard marines alone while addressing some of the long held criticisms of the line. Let's flash back to 6th/7th edition and look at some of the criticisms for marines and thoughts as to how to address them. One of the first was that the mixed nature of tac squads well looking good on paper actually wasn't very good. people noted the specialized nature of elder units was part of what made them work so well, everyone had the same type of weapon, and that weapon was generally good for what it was. looking at space marine primaris squads, that more or less stands now, intercessors all have the same type of gun, and that gun is generally pretty good for what it is (the bolt rifle is over all one of the best troop small arms in 40k, combining superior range with armor peircing and admittingly average damage). Another complaint, Marines where too squishy. a lotta people specificly saying they should have another wound, welp, primaris have another wound. then there was the size issue, plenty of people have remarked on space marine size issues, so I'll not get into that beyond noting the true scale affendios are rather happy with primaris marines.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I've not seen any problems yet. Generally, regular Space Marines seem to respect the Primaris Marines. Many of the Primaris Marines have the purified genetic material of their primarchs, and indeed the genetic memory, so some regular marines revere them. I'm not sure if some of the Primaris actually have memories from 10,000 years ago, as I'm not sure when they were taken to be modified.
I'm not eliminating the possibility of strife and trouble, but the regular marines seem quite accepting of the reinforcements, in general.

I agree with this sentiment. It's too late now (baring some kind of cull or disease that affects one or the other). They could've just revised the model line to be true scale without coming up with fluff. I believe more people would have expected that.
There's quite a few discussions here on if Space Marines were a stop-gap measure, just like the Thunder Warriors. The Emperor could have deemed them merely tools and could have eliminated them after a better alternative was created, or they were no longer necessary.

I would have liked the rules and points costs for Space Marines to change to make them feel more of an elite force (more than even now) and their physical size increase, rather than introducing Primaris Marines. Cynics also see the copyright or trademark benefits of create "Primaris Marines" rather than "Space Marine" which is a more general term. Adeptus Astartes seems like it should suffice though. The old model lines could have been phased out from sale and eventually all replaced.

Another perspective is that the Space Marines were not, in fact, as elite as they were made out to be. I don't think that works very well in terms or lore or gaming, as having a small elite force, where one marine can stand up against at least 10 regular humans at once (guardsmen or cultists), gives a variation in armies. The rules, points cost, etc should reflect this.

On a side note... is it possible to "upgrade" regular marines to Primaris through extra gene therapy and implants?

On another side note... because they already have the lore, and it would be really hard to get rid of it now, could they have battles in eras? So we have 30k for the Horus Heresy. Could we have 40k and 41k?

:90s style sitcom theme music, cityscape at night, fade to title. Pan in on Idaeus and Somex's New York apartment.

Idaeus: So I went to the market for some bolter anointing oil. Yesterday with Fulvous.

Somex: (pausing) How did that go? Did you find the Chapter Approved brand or were they out? How's Fulvous?

Idaeus: (sighing) Oh he's good. Lost his sarge the other week and now he thinks he might get promoted.

(Both turn to each other and after a brief pause) Both: Better bullets, more promotions!

(Idaeus slaps Somex on the pauldron, for a moment the spark is back)

S: Do you want to go down to the range and pop off a few rounds hon?

I: (remembering) No Somex we have to talk. I saw you yesterday. You were... You were with a battle brother from another Chapter. What were you doing, you said you got called in for a recon.

S: (hesitant again) Are you sure it was me? Lot of marines in New York hon.

I: You're a foot taller than everyone else Somex, come on. I saw your purity seals. What were you doing?

S: Idaeus look... We're going to do a mission with that chapter...

I: Which chapter?

S:. They're called the Star Watchers. Idaeus, babe...

I: (advancing angrily) By the Emperor don't you 'babe' me Somex!

S: (hands up defensive) Idaeus! It was just lunch! As an officer I have to get to know my fellow officers, especially ones from other chapters! This mission is critical. I was thinking... You might want to bring your squad. We need something other than a bolter rifle or a plasma gun this time and I thought well. If there is any Devastator I want behind me, it's you Idaeus.

I: (takes off helmet) Somex! Really?

S: Yeah babe! Do you wanna vape some Nids next weekend?

I: (embracing Somex) Oh Somex, yes! Yes I'll tell the squad, oh my Emperor! What should I tell them to bring?

S: Well hon I thought maybe some heavy bolters would be nice, maybe you could bring that multimelta I like so much?

I: I'm sorry I got angry Somex, it's my gene trait. I'll go tell the fellas. Do you want a drink hon? (Retreating into kitchen)

S: It's okay Idaeus, that's what I love about you regular Marines. So passionate. And yes, I'll take a scotch please, but only if you're having one!

:Theme music plays, fade into cityscape at night, roll credits.
