Okay so here is my problem.

I went out and got both the smaller starter sets for 40k and now I have two pretty decent army cores. The Death Guard end up with enough troops to start off well. The Primaris Marines need just an easy build box of Intercessors and Reivers each to have full MSU for each unit, so that's a pretty solid start too. But now I have an SC box of Eldar built and almost painted too! A couple more units, namely a war Walker and a troop type, and I could field a detachment for them too.

Trouble is, I'm not sure which codex to buy! I'm kind of leaning Eldar because I've never played them before and I really want to do something new. I love space marines but want to wait for new Primaris stuff. I love DG and want to resurrect my old Encrusty warband, but I've done that before. Eldar is shiny and new, but hard to collect sometimes and kinda has a bad rap for being OP.

What would you do and if you had the same choices, which armies would be your priorities and why? Pretty sure one day I'll have books for all 3 but I can only afford to bulk out and book up one army right now. Which army would you pick and why?

Id pick the army that you actually envision your self painting and playing.

Eldar id say and just avoid dark reapers.

Otherwise its really easy to collect a primarus force. or DG (though i dont really like them as everyone plays them)

Yeah I agree with the pick the one you like best motto. I guess internally I know I'll pick Eldar because it's new, and I like the models but it's always fun to see what other people think.

Eldar would be a cool start, because their units are almost all specialist of one form or another, so they play very differently from marines. The only problematic issue is that eldar line is pretty old, so you can have a hard time getting certain models, with them being available only in finecast or not at all from GW.

If I could direct people towards an army, the one that's been the most fun to play against and play as in 8th ed would probably be tyranids. The only drawback is you'll either love or hate the way they look, and most people fall into the later category. I enjoy hr giger's art (which is the obvious inspiration for the tyranids), and I love that it can still make skin crawl decades after I got into it.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

As a Tyranid player, i would say that they're the most difficult army to get into. You have to build and paint so many models. It's expensive and very time consuming.

If you want to play Tyranids, you KNOW you want to play them. If you're on the fence about them, you should probably go a different route.

Even Reapers are fine if you don't spam them. One unit, your opponent can avoid, or kill. Three units though?

Well since Reapers are flopcast I'll probably avoid them based on that. I bought one finecast terminator chaplain four times and that was the only chance GW got.

Maybe if I wanted to laugh at finecast again then I'd get some Reapers.

As it turns out I just traded some xwing for a ton of guardians, so probably be converting some stuffs.

Quick question, can Exodites have aspect warriors? I got some snap fit eldar and want to make fire dragons out of some.

You can make your own background and play your army from craftworlds rules so sure. Alaitoc rules might work best....
