Title has it all.
There have been cases where new codex = new or updated models for some armies while a new codex = same models, just rule changes (Grey Knights?).

What are your opinions on which faction will get new models?

Rumors have it that Drukhari, Tau and Necrons are expected some time nearby-

Do you think any of the following will get new models?

Or what armies do you think will get model updates?

I mean the rumors section has alot of “info” about all this really, but from rumor mill pictures eldar and orks seem to be a good bet.

Necrons are getting a cryptek, but otherwise I'm not expecting new models for Tau, 'crons, or DE. Or Orks. All of those factions are large and have fairly complete lineups. Genestealers probably aren't getting anything either.

Orks are the most likely of that set to get new things, I think.

Given they separated the Sisters of Silence from the Custodians for reasons unknown to me, there will probably be a HQ element [or more] for them when they hit.

They've also repeatedly teased us, so we [Sisters of Battle] might get a major release, but it's just as likely to be teasing, because they like teasing us.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I thought if we talked about that the guys at GW would reset the clock?

Well the last one was TSons right? So the next release for a codex probably won't be Chaos, Berzerkers and Noise Marines still need books.

Bugs got a book.
Guard got a book.
Admech, SM, DG, Chaos, Daemons, all those guys got books. Space Elf's got a book.

So who is left that needs books? Bad Space Elf's and Clown Space Elf's need books.

I'm gonna say Dark Eldar are gonna be next up and we will probably see some sort of DE Ynnari stuff. That's my super guess.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But I kinda hope it is SoB because then everyone will throw their armies away for pennies so they can buy all the Sisters. Then I'll have all the space elf's!!!! Mwuhahaha

There's an incredibly flimsy rumor out there that there's going to be a Kult of Speed codex. There's gotta be something orky in the pipeline what with that rumor engine tire.

Let's face reality people: only imperium and chaos get new releases, that's the GW politics since years.

Xenos could maybe get a single dude, probably a new model that replaces something already existing, like the cryptek. Or ork buggies.

Is "years" in this case... one year? The last big Xenos release was GSC in 2016. Xenos get far fewer releases than Imperium and Chaos, I will definitely admit to that, but they do happen.

I think Harlies or Ynarri will get a new release, hopefully a cool wraith lord type thing.

There's that rumour about space wolves vs orks box so I guess both of those will get new releases. Orks makes sense as a ton of models would disappear in the codex since there is no model support for them anymore. Models that are kinda key to a lot of armies. They also have some extremely old kits so I hope they get an update.

We know knights are getting a new unit in the mini knight.

I don't think a sisters release will come with the codex. It'll follow later if it comes at all. It's too large a release.

I think they're more likely in general to release new faction kits than update old models. Sisters of silence is a good bet.

The rumor engine pic from 12/19/2017 looks extremely Eldary, but not in a usual way. More streamlined than typical CWE, and nothing spikey like DE. So Ynnari/Harlies would be good candidates (although I could see that stuff being on a fast CWE skimmer/flyer).
I would also love a wraith construct. Harlequins don't use them (they don't have soulstones or an infinity circuit), but Ynnari might. Wraith constructs are supposedly more "alive" when close to Yvraine and co, so we could see a wraith stuff with a more dynamic pose.

It's official -
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2018/01/26/new-codexes-factions-our-heroes-and-more-breaking-news-from-the-las-vegas-opengw-homepage-post-1/

Next models up are Eisenhorn, a Knight and at least one Necron. Beyond that the only guarantees are continued Marine/CSM releases, Custodes(via forgeworld), and sooner or later the other daemons.

The DE lineup is only "fairly complete" because they stripped the army to the bone in 7th.

DE are in dire need of some new models, so that their HQs can stop being amongst the slowest in the game, with not a single one of them having the option of a jetbike, skyboard or wings.

Any player of any faction can typically point ot a few things which are almost certain releases from GW.

First up there's a slew of models that are still in finecast which are likely to get new releases in plastic. Tyranids are likely due a combined biovore/pyrovore kit and possibly a Deathleaper/lictor kit (which would put everything barring Red Terror into plastic for them).

Then there are very dated kits that are clearly in need of a revamp - orks have things like bikes and trucks which are clearly very old, dated and show compared to newer sculpts.

Then there's armies which are clearly in need of bolstering. Slannesh is clearly in line for some updates considering that now all of the other three Chaos Gods have had big updates adding new large models and new regular units in both the core Beasts line and also in other armies as well.

Sisters of Battle are teased so openly by GW now that its fairly clear that they will get some attention. They've paid so much attention that they can't now just sweep them under the carpet.

Sisters of Silence are in a very odd spot since they weren't included with Custodes and thus currently they exist with only two models. Same for Yanari. Those almost faction-expansion models are sitting in a spot where they could either get folded into an existing codex as optional extras or where they could strike out on their own, but would need a larger release of models to support it.
Honestly I fully expect Sisters of Silence to now be bundled in with Sisters of Battle; or to otherwise be treated like a mercenary force. I'd be shocked if Sisters of Silence got their own whole army.

Umh bikes for orks are one of the newer line of kits they have received. Would be odd one to upgrade. Basic orks are lot older kits than bikes.

Ynnari got a single release but basically only because GW wanted to launch the imperium superheroes and the stories behind them, so they were forced to produce the 3 ynnari guys, who are NOT dark eldar. Harlies and Gen cult are spin-off armies, the cult can also be allied to an imperium faction, what a surprise.

So other than harlies, gen cult and the ynnari what are those xenos models released after 2014, maybe 2015? Where are the orks, dark eldar, tau, necrons, eldar, tyranids releases? Oh yes, I forgot a sprue the orks flyer got added last year, a useless sprue that also made the entire box 50% more expensive.

Ahh I mixed up orks! I think I was remembering that truck kit that was advertised a while back (I think it was some tie in kit with one of the big model making companies).

It's https://www.games-workshop.com/en-NO/Ork-Wartrakk and https://www.games-workshop.com/en-NO/Ork-Warbuggy that are super old.

Here's my list. A * means they got some sort of shuffle. A triumvirate model released individually, a new start collecting box, an Age of Sigmar kit ported over. That sort of thing.

Space Marines* - got primaris releases
Chaos Space Marines - got plaguemarin-- oh wait those are for
Deathguard - got plaguemarine and vehicle releases
Grey Knights*
Astra Militarum - EDIT:Bobthehero: "The Guard got the new Marbo"
Adeptus Mechanicus*
Tyranids*
Craftworlds*
Blood Angels - primaris + upgrade sprue, Lieutenant
Dark Angels* - primaris + upgrade sprue, Lieutenant
Chaos Daemons* - GUO, 2 heralds, gnarlmaw, beast of nurgle
Adeptus Custodes - Trajann Valoris, Terminator box, Jetbike box
Thousand Sons*

So it's like 50-50 that an army will get something new. The new Necron character plus maybe one other things for the next 3 books? Is there anything that can be repacked like triumverate boxes? Any AoS stuff that could be ported over?

You're right, you can still get the cool old truck chassis on some websites like Revel. It makes for cool buggy conversions.

I hope they don't change the current Ork boys kit, it is a fantastic kit and I don't want them to ruin it!

I hope they give us a AoS style super Saiyan Ork kit, maybe the opening of the great rift has saturated some parts of the galaxy with Waaaghh energy causing Orks to ascend to a new plane of strength and cunning! They would provide interesting foil for Ghazgull as well.

Yeah, I'm on permanent "believe it when I see it" mode with all Sisters of Battle or Fires of Cyraxus rumors.

My guess for 40k model releases:

1) A new Ynnari thing. I want more harlequins, but I'm guessing Ynnari will be fleshed out into a real faction. I'm guessing thats the eldar-looking rumor engine

2) I suspect the "ork subfaction" rumor will pan out to just be a rebox of the AOBR deffcopta sprue, a new deffbuggy/trakk kit which will be ABSURDLY overpriced for the 30-50 points its likely to be, and a "speed freeks" box set. Maybe a warboss on bike with an optional build to make him a named character. Maybe. I still have no idea why we dont have a warboss kit ala the space marine captain kit, with real options for 40ish dollars.

Custodians say hello. There were not really expected - they are here.

Sisters of Silence should get the same treatment really.

SOB I want - but no trust in GW to do them.

The current factions will likely just get a single model (maybe and if possible a repackage) unless they are Marines of course.

I so wish GW hadn't been so quick to release the Grey Knight codex and simultaneously smother the hopes of Grey Knight players and those hoping for a unified Inquisition alike.

That said, hopefully they'll put the effort into witch hunters proper. Sisters of Silence, Sisters of Battle, throw in the Inquisitor line.... repack some rhinos with upgrade sprues.... its as much a faction as most of the new ones we've seen recently.

Granted, I'm not going to hold my breath...
