How do?

Intending to return to playing 40k with the lovely Adeptus Custodes. Not only are they a beautiful range, but a very smol army. And considering I'd need to take it with me on a commute to make my games, that's a definite boon.

Trouble is, I've no idea about how to go about assessing the various FoCs in 8th Ed. Not just for Custards, like, at all. I mean, I get the slots and adding up your points and stuff, but not how to work out which of them offers me the best deal. Do I stack up the CPs, or go for a more esoteric organisation to make good use of the Custard's Elite choices. That sort of thing.

Looking to collect around 2,500 points worth, so I've got some flexibility. But in terms of what I want to physically buy, I'm very much trapped in the Old Way - 1 HQ, 2 Troops. 1 HQ, 2 Troops (sing it with me).

So any points out there folks? Literally any. General theories on how to pick the right FoC, down to 'this is what I take for Custards'.

Help an old man out

Not custodian specific but since CP's are so bloody good I have hard time creating list that doesn't have at least battallion and maybe additional +1CP detachment somewhere. For Imperium cheap IG battallion with warlord that gives you CP for used CP and when opponent uses strategems are also very popular(that's 3 CP plus plenty more during game. With 6 starting CP I have found it hard to go to 0 with those) but of course adds stuff to carry. Though you can get by 32 infantry model for that(3 squads + 2 company commander) which would also serve as chaff to bubble wrap custodians.

Definitely wanting to go pure Custodes. Again, probably just an old war dog howling at progress, but there it is

Well if you go with pure custodians and don't take battalion(brigade is likely pipe dream! ) you would be stuck with basically 4-5 CP which runs pretty short. Do custodians have any decent way of getting more CP in game like guard has(2)?

So dunno. I would be going for battalion unless the basic squads are REALLY bad. HQ's aren't problem as the bike captains are awesome. 2 is dead easy.

I think there is a way we can recover CP? I'm not 100% sure. My efforts so far have fallen someway short of tentative.

It's surprisingly daunting when you know that you don't know what you're doing!

Our Troops choices are your basic or garden variety Custards, which come as a minimum sized squad of 3. They's tough and pretty 'ard, so no worries in taking a couple of squads worth.

The basic Custodian Guard troops are pretty solid and you only need 9 of them total for a Battalion. Unless you're doing something specific (Jetbike list, Allarus bomb), I'd default to a Battalion.

Custodes are so expensive, you can pretty much stop at a Battalion, though a Battalion and a Vanguard might be possible at 2K or higher since some Custodes Elites aren't too expensive (e.g. Vexillas).

All part of the challenge. And what is life without a challenge every now and then?

Besides, think of how spectacular my victories will be when my foe consider them improbable from the outset!

7 command points + can regain D3 when you activate a strat. Decent mobility with 6 biker captains with a hard inner core from the storm shield guys with the -1 to hit banner.

BTW the FAQ came out and they didnt mess with the Praetorian Plate relic so you can use it multiple times during the course of the game. Start the game in deep strike, nominate a bike captain who's up front, and auto-appear in near him when he gets charged. Soon as you hit the table nominate another character to do it again. Your warlord will be bouncing around basically untouchable and yet still bopping heads with his axe.

Get Guillimon. Nice aura, bonus cp and an expensive model to stick with low model count. He is Lord Commander and the reason goldies leave terra at all, so taht fits fluffwise

I run a Vanguard detachment to supplement my SM army. You can take a lot of AC units and I find the SM battlion is better than what I have seen from people using an AM battery. There is a lot of flexibility.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.
