So i have a rules spesifc question about bases.

Ever since i first saw 40k models i have hated their transparent lowprofile flyer bases on the models that comes with them.(example; tau drones, hammerheads, eldar grav tanks, necron destryers,SM landspeeders) they dont compute whit the regular base in my head.
So, can i replace the flyer base whit a regular base, and if so, should i go for smaller or bigger then the base that came with the model?

Doesn't matter. Any advantages/disadvantages of different bases go both ways.

While skchsan is correct that there are inherent pros and cons to base sizes, the rules say that you're allowed to have bases the size of those provided with the model. The normal small flyer bases, like those for a Drone, are 32mm. As such, if you're going to rebase them, use the 32mm base size. You can change the base size to anything for a for-fun game, but do note that going bigger or smaller runs the risk of a TO not allowing you to use those models at that tournament. It's rare, but it happens. Here's a helpful infographic.

(spoiler because it's a big image)

Id say try and keep it a similar size but in general it wont matter too much outside of some balls to the walls tourny.
id go slightly bigger for stability.

i think those regular ones are 30mm or so so the 32 should be perfect (new marine ones)

the big one is around a 50-60 so a 55 might be right.
edit: oh nice resource i will be saving that.

though if a model has a rule saying measure to the base id try and keep it the same (like most floating big vehicles or flyers)

The rules say nothing about basing at all.

thus why i made this thread.
i just want to be on the safe side when i replace my flyerbase. even casuals can have some standards

and no, i wont do big turnys. i play casualy and if i ever attended a comp it would be nothing more serious then double team and slowgrow at my local club.

The Citadel Flying Bases are either 32mm or 60mm, so replace with an appropriate size base and there should be no problem.

This. I can't see any sane person taking issue with you swapping out a clear base for an opaque one of the same size.

Agreed.

I kind of solved this for my flyers, by applying the same base treatment to the flat part of their flyer-bases, as I would with all my other bases.

A layer of sand/rocks, paint, some vegetation.

So now those bases don't look 'transparent' any longer, and fit in with the general style of the army.
The transparent stick coming out of that base looks fine, wouldn't touch that.

If you're a massive pedant, there isn't a matching size of flat base to go with the round clear bases; 32mm and 65mm are closest to 30 and 60mm.

I see the new Custodes jetbikes come with ordinary bases and clear stands anyway (IIRC, the griffon rider in the 8th edition WFB box set was the first to combine a clear stand and a standard base like that).

The flying bases are 32mm and 60mm according to GW's online store and there are standard 32mm and 60mm round bases.

I think he's measured the top side of the base.
