I'm thinking of getting some phalanx warders (a unit of 10 to be exact) at some point for my fledgling imperial fists army as I really like the minis however after looking at their rules I'm not sure how to actually make them work given their hefty price tag so I was wondering what other people run them with and how successful they've been with them.

A mate of mine uses a lot of them with stone gauntlet, throws them in raiders, very tough nut to crack for my dark angels

What weapons does he normally equip them with?

They are an expensive unit, and I'd only run them in Stone Gauntlet for the +1 Toughness. Throwing them into a Land Raider on top of that... you are looking at over 500 points for five guys and a Land Raider. 10 guys and close to 700? I think giving them all the bells and whistles are a mistake. A P-fist or T-hammer on the Sarge, and a meltagun would be all I would give them. The axes are a trap. You could probably run a couple of 'em, but I wouldn't equip the entire squad with 'em.

You could foot slog them with an Apothecary, and maybe a Deredo Dread to increase their invulnerable by +1. The Deredo isn't very good in close combat.

rule 1 is DON'T give everyone a power axe. They simply end up too expensive otherwise.

rule 2 is if you're gonna be using them, you need to be choosey where you use them. If a breacher can handle the job, try to not use the warders unless you need them to.

personally, I like running a 10-man squad with 4 axes and a fist. For real lulz, put Dorn and a medicae in the squad so if/when someone charges them Dorn bumps up to Angron-level WS: 9 since the Warder WS buff applies to everyone in the unit.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

You could just use them as MK4 breachers.
Unless you really want power axes, breachers probably do the job just as well for less.

Plus, breachers can carry squad-wide meltabombs, which makes the Phobos an attractive transport for rushing up to vehicles.

My mate uses them with pollox when my VIth first started out they were tough to handle but I've since given my slayers power fists and some axes and now they Arnt that big of an issue.
