I'm going to add some Scouts to my Fallen army and I'm using the FW Recon models because I think they look better than regular Scouts. I had an idea for camo cloaks. Since they about make the wearer invisible due to how they bind light, what if you were able to paint them to have a mirror reflective finish? The idea is if I place them in say ruins, the mirror part would reflect the actual ruins thus making it harder to see them. Granted, I have NO idea if painting the cloak to be as reflective as a mirror is possible, but I figured it might be easier (for me at least) than to try and recast the Recon Models in clear resin. Just an idea I had, no clue if it'd work, look cool, or even possible. What do you guys think?

The issue is the mirror surfae is going to reflect based on angles. So mostly your going to be seeing the stores ceiling. And since the model is made of a bunch of surves and edges your going to see the image broken up over and over again as the reflection distorts and catches all kinds of stuff that is not on the table.

Instead, I would base them really well and paint the camo cloak to look like your basing.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Hmm I didn't think of the seeing ceiling tiles with that finish. Would camo cloaks have that energy charge like they do with the Tau, or would I paint the cloak like my basing then the armor normal?

Probably work

Those Tau are really cool.

It gets into a "humor" type thing, and there's probably people who would have a problem with it, but I always thought camo cloaks were best painted like this:

Who knows? Your models paint them how you like.

Best one I saw was from here I think - they recast the cloak with clear resin and then didn't paint it

That's a great paint job, you can't even see them!

There are many ways to do this, but I like the effect where the feet of the model upwards match the base. If it's a diorama piece or you have some terrain behond it on the base, you could be really clever and paint the model as if you can see the terrain behind it. Have seen the effect on here somewhere before.
