Well I’ve got a new favourite show!

It’s kind of like a modern take on Wonder Years and similar ‘coming of age’ series, but set in 1996.

And it is utterly charming. The music is spot on, the fashion cues are spot on. The subtle cultural references are suitably fun, and subtle. And I’m barely three episodes in.

I highly recommend checking it out.

Kind of reminds me "Freaks & Geeks".
My wife and I see ourselves in the drama kids just not as annoying, just clothing.

I'm back!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Eh. The whole "90's kids" thing seems to be a lot more ironic/mocking than the way folk who grew up in the 80's worship the cultural minutiae of that decade - is the show closer to the former of the latter tonally?

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The 90’s thing is very subtle overall. It’s not clobbering you over the head every few minutes

Might give it a go then. Just couldn't stomach the idea of some "Hey there, fellow kids, recall Nirvana? Have you collected the latest Pogs, and watched the newly released film Hackers? Haha, I have a skateboard and topical humour about Bill Clinton." nonsense like most 80's nostalgia shows devolve into

Definitely a million miles away from that, I'm glad to say.

Also, the whole awkward teenage years isn't hammed up for laughs, but presented in a pretty natural way. Everyone is a bit of a doofus in their own way, which I felt made the programme that much more endearing.
