Does the 2017 version of the General’s handbook replace the one that came before it or is it in addition to the other one?

RVA

It is a replacement rather than a supplement.

well...there is material in ghb2016 that is still useful. The points aren't the only thing in GHB that are useful.

Like what?

I ask because I got the 2016 version at half price books, then remembered there is a 17 version when I got home. If the book has been superseded and replaced, I will return it.

Battleplans and such not.

If the only reason you bought the book was for points and you don't care about anything else, then yeah its usefulness to you is none.

the narrative senarios are still usefull if your into that, but everything in regards to matched play is replaced by 17.

and according to info there will be a new GHB every summer, so it is up to you if you want to get 17 now or wait 4-5 months for 18.

It overlaps the previous book. It doesn't replace it. Any rule from GHB 2016 that is not covered in GHB 2017 is still completely valid.

The primary function of the General's Handbook is to give you rules for matched play in Age of Sigmar, this includes rules for the different tiers, battleline restrictions and how they work, and rules covering command abilities, relics, etc.

If that's what you're using it for (like most players) you want the 2017 edition and the old version offers nothing for you.

The old edition does have points values for some old armies that will not be supported going forward, it also has these really limited escalation type rules which I think were spun off, but I don't know for sure.

Maybe for you, but a lot of us like the narrative content. The points override the old edition, but there is still plenty of content from GHB 2016 that is useful like the Path to Glory rules for example. Some people seem to be implying that the previous book may as well not exist, and that's just not true.

Here's a quick question, if a Battalion had a price in 2016, but no longer has a price in 2017, BUT has prices in the Azyr app, what is still relevant? Im looking at things like verminous clawpack.

17,000 points (Valhallan)
10,000 points
6,000 points (Order of Our Martyred Lady)
Proud Countess of House Terryn hosting 7 Knights, 2 Dominus Knights, and 8 Armigers
Stormcast Eternals: 7,000 points

Well to a lot of people the generals handbook only exists between the pages that are for matched play lol.

I believe that if they got rid of the prices then they are no longer matched play viable. But then it would depend on the event in question.
