I bought a resin GW Model (Ultramarines Sergeant Chronus) and this was my first time working with resin as opposed to normal plastic. Not doing my research, I treated the model like I would any plastic model. After assembling and priming (w/ Chaos Black), I waited a bit over 24 hours to use the Macragge Blue spray as a base coat. Now about two days later, I'm ready to finish base coating the other colors, but I noticed a slight shine on some parts of the model.

After doing some research, I learned that I was supposed to rise and scrub the resin before doing anything else. I'm hoping the model isn't ruined beyond repair, as I need this figure for my escalation league ASAP. Would I have to strip the model completely before soaking it and scrubbing off the residue, or could I do it already primed and base coated?

Thanks.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

It isn't ruined, you've just left on the mold release agent, which isn't a massive problem but it will mean the super glue is more likely to fail and the paint is more likely to chip. If you're careful it won't be a problem.

yes, the soap bath has to happend before any paint is applyed, so if the shine bothers you, you have to completely strip the model as the residue from the casting prossess is under your primer.

this goes for any resin, not just GW/forgeworld resin.

That's reassuring. The whole thing isn't shiny, just a few spots where I wouldn't be gluing anything to begin with. Later down the road I might be trying to kitbash a plastic Chronus but I don't have the bits to do that right now (just missing the servo arm backpack, which I can't seem to find in plastic.)
