Am I reading this right? A roll of a d6, resulting in a 6, gives a mortal wound.

An entire unit of Striking Scorpions get a single mandiblaster shot between them?

What does the rule say?

Mandiblasters: At the beginning of each Fight phase, you can pick a single enemy INFANTRY unit within 1" of this unit. Roll a D6 for each model in this unit; for each roll of 6, the enemy unit suffers a mortal wound.

Yeah this is one of those weird cases where the rule doesn't even come close to matching up with the fluff.

However, as it stands, having one model equipped with mandiblasters is exactly the same as having the entire unit equipped with mandiblasters.

It basically just forces whichever unit you are engaged with take a dangerous terrain test on all models (quite nasty againgst large units and quite nonsensical when you know what the item is).

I disagree. The wording is poor but I believe means you roll a D6 per Striking Scorpion, not just one D6 or a D6 per model in the enemy unit

I tend to concur. Rules that are intended to roll a d6 per model in the enemy unit (Swooping Hawk grenade packs, aircraft bombs) are worded as "roll a d6 for each model in the enemy unit" rather than "roll a d6 for each model in this unit."

Awkward, certainly, and could stand clarification, however.

Ok, now after rereading the rule a few times I'll go with what you guys said.

It is written pretty badly though.

They should have just said:
Mandiblasters: At the beginning of each Fight phase, you can pick a single enemy INFANTRY unit within 1" of this unit. Roll a D6 for each model equipped with a mandiblaster; for each roll of 6, the enemy unit suffers a mortal wound.
