As a necron player I have been frustrated that I can't buy scarabs on their own, and buying a box of a warriors for just 3 bases of scarabs is a bit too unreasonable for me, so I have turned to making my own. I've figured out my preferred method of a two part blue stuff mold, but am still unsure of what material would be ideal for the scarabs themselves.

The 'candidate' putties I've looked into are milliput, green stuff, and brown stuff. Of these which would have the best detail retention? Another quality I'm worried about is the material expanding or contracting as it cures.

Brown stuff or miliput will both cure more firm than GS (50:50). They both allow a harder edge, too (GS is better for softer edges like fabric drapery ).

I've used all three - and it really depends on how you are going to mount them and how many you need, tbh.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I've only tried recasting things with Green Stuff and while the detail was good it remained very flexible. I would definitely consider the other two.

I would recommend about a fifty fifty mix of greenstuff and milliput. it provides the best of both worlds

Or you could buy Cyber Spider swarm from Puppets War. 120 scarab sized mecha spiders. (cos we really shouldn't be discussing recasting on these forums)
