Hi, can I make a guard company commander a warlord in an imperial soup brigade to get the 5+ stratagem regeneration warlord trait?

And furthermore can I give him the kurov's aquila relic to steal enemy CP?

I believe this wouldn't give me access to the guard stratagems though

You can make him the warlord and get access to the warlord trait and relic.

However, the stratagems require that you have one detachment that is wholly in one codex (in this scenario Imperial guard)

Yes. Your soup detachment will not get you any stratagems

Cheers. Just wanted to check I'd understood it right! I suspect it'll still cause a rules debate every time I run a list with guard warlord and relics but no pure guard detachment

Just to be clear you get _one_ Relic, singular for taking the guardsman as your warlord.
In your last post you used the plural, relics, and in order to take more than one Guard Relic, you need access to the stratagem that allows you to do so.

No pure guard detachment, no access to stratagems, no more additional relics.

I thought the warlord had to be from a detachment that the relic is also from, to get access to it? So unless you have a pure guard detachment you don't get access to relics?

Might be wrong but I thought this was the case.

no. Your warlord dictates which one relic you get, but the relic in question can go to any eligible unit even if it not in the same detachment.

Example here is that he can get the aquila for a regimental commander he has in his second detachment, even though his warlord can be from the first

Just for clarification, does anyone know if they've ever FAQed the relics stratagems to be clear that you can take one in a detachment that your warlord isn't in? I've had people tell me I can't use it as it's an 'extra' relic and they've said this means additional to the one you'd have normally. Just want to know if there's something you can point to to show that you definitely can take a relic for your non-warlord allies for CP

I don't think it's been FAQd, and I don't expect it to, because to anyone that understands the rules it should be pretty clear you can use the stratagem to take relics in this way so long as you have access to the respective stratagem.

It sucks if people still don't allow it though.

They have, you can, Codex DeathGuard FAQ.

Thanks! Strange they've only done it for death guard, but I guess it sets a precedent

Yeah, there are several examples of 'specific rules questions with broader impacts' in a few of the codex specific FAQ's. Super annoying as you need to basically skim every FAQ regardless of whether you play the army.
