Subject: T'au Saviour Protocols

Hi guys, got a question because I've played against T'au today for the first time since the Errata that changed the Saviour Protocols, and so did my opponent, so we got confused as to the way Saviour Protocols works.
So the ruling says "if the attack successfully wounds it, you can allocate that Wound to the Drones unit instead of the target. If you do so, that Drones unit suffers a Mortal Wound instead of the normal damage." But let's say I hit the Crisis Team with a weapon that deals 1d6 damage, I successfully roll to Wound, he doesn't get a save because of AP-4, then he choses to allocate that Wound to the Drones unit. However, he says that as it's a single Wound roll, the Drones unit only suffer one Mortal Wound, even if I rolled 6 on the Damage.
Is that right ? Or should it deal 6 Mortal Wounds ? My problem here is the meaning of "successfully wounds it", does it mean just rolling the right score to Wound on my die, or that the Wound has passed because he failed his save ? Because it seems a little bonkers to me that a single Drone dies from a S10 AP-4 6D shot.
Thanks in advance lads and laddies

I believe the procedure is as follows:
Roll to hit (unit is hit)
Roll to wound (unit is wounded)
Apply wound to Drone
Drone takes 1 Mortal Wound.
Shield Drone (only!) makes 5+ roll to ignore.
Note there is no armor save or damage roll involved! Damage rolls happen after armor saves, and the wound is applied to the drone before armor saves are made.

Yeah, applying damage occurs after allocating a wound and the model failing its saving throw, and in this case the wound is allocated to the drone as one mortal wound substituted for the regular damage.

Any one wound model can eat D6 damage all by itself. Shoot a lascannon at a unit of Conscripts, you kill one guy tops.
The drawback to the Savior Protocols is that the drone is eating a Mortal Wound. A Crisis Suit shot by a -2 AP D6 weapon might make his 5+ save, or the Drone could eat it and automatically die (unless it's a Shield Drone).
