Bit of a fun question this

but months ago, when the 8th edition rumors were being leaked one new rule at a time, there was something about anything could wound anything e.g enough lasgun fire could blow a Land Raider away.

Naturally, it became a running joke on the thread, as people envisioned massed ranks of conscripts striking terror into the hearts of Land Raider drivers everywhere.

Now, I've never played 8th, and I've no idea if this anything can wound anything rule exists in the game, or how effective Conscripts are or were in 8th, but did they ever gun down a Land Raider?

Thanks.

You've got the timeline wrong on this.

GW made the joke about lasguns blowing Land Raiders away after the community started panicking over it.

At the time of the index release, conscrips at 12" with FRFSRF could inflict 11 wounds on a LR platform. I dont believe there were auras at the time that could buff them further, but I could easily be wrong.

Yes, "at the time of the index release"--meaning it was 50 Conscripts receiving Orders with no penalties.
Now, Conscripts cap out at 30 models and can only receive Orders on 4+s.

Well, thanks for the replies.

I haven't played 40k since 5th edition, so I have no idea what the game is like anymore.

The to wound chart is as follows

Is your strength half or less than half their T? 6+
Is your strength less than T? 5+
Is your strength = T? 4+
Is your strength greater than T? 3+
Is your strength double or more than T? 2+

Everything including vehicles have a armor save. AP on weapons is a penalty to save.

So a space marine with a 3+ save gets shot by a ap-1 gun he would need to make a 4+ save.

So a Lander Raider is a T8, Sv2+, 16 wound model.

Lasguns are str 3 ap0 dmg 1 guns.

Wounding on 6s and being negated on a 2+ roll and needing 16 such shots to get through to kill it.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

To answer the question: possibly a squad may have taken the last wound or 2 off of one the whole time 8th has been played, but realistically: no.

Assuming 100 conscripts are within 12" with FRFSRF and average rolls, no rerolls:

400 shots at 5+ : 133 hit.
Wound at 6+: 22 wound.
Save on 2+: 4 unsaved.

100 conscripts would need to stand there and shoot a landraider for 4 solid turns. If they were only getting FRFSRF every other turn, that'd make it 6 turns.

Anything-can-wound-anything doesn't mean it's likely, but it is nice that there is always a chance. Makes the game more fun if your able to take a few long-shots at some monstrosity with 1-2 wounds left and possibly turn the game around.

100 cadian conscripts will inflict 4.3 wounds to a landraider if you buff them with orders (which is not that hard). So, they'll kill around 90-100 pts of damage to a landraider. They themselves cost like 475 pts including commanders (that don't shoot themselves for some reason in our equasion)

A godhammer landraider with a stormbolter in return will kill 5.63 conscripts. Which is 20-24 pts of conscripts or 24-28 pts of conscripts + officers. A landraider itself costs around 350 pts iirc.

After easy calculations, we get that conscripts are ~3 times better at killing a landraider than a landraider at killing conscripts.

The actual answer to the question is definitively yes since I killed a land raider with conscripts. Two blobs of 50 (index version) both getting FRFSRF, reroll 1's from commissar Yarrick, and charging with a priest nearby to give them a bonus attack. It took me 4 turns (shoot, charge, land raider would fall back, repeat) but since it was my only goal that game (I wanted to see how long it would take) I did it.

Now my play group makes jokes about the time my conscripts bored a land raider to death.

It was obvious from the tone of his post.

You're better off just charging the land raider and surrounding it with a single squad.

So far my biggest kill has been a knight, but that was just chipping the last 3 wounds with every single lasgun in my army.

It was never even remotely as feasible as some people made it out to be. Can be great for hail Mary plays, and I've killed a lot of Eldar Skimmers through liberal use of FRFSRF
