After cutting down to one HH force of loyalist Iron Hands, I would like to start collecting and building onto a Traitor Legion. I am open to any of them, sway me, broaden my knowledge.

Well Iron hands are shooty army often so I would consider some army that can at least play bit more aggressively generally. So iron warriors would be out IMO(Also colour schemes are probably bit too similar). Maybe death guard as well. Both are kinda tough shooty armies often. World eaters would of course be total opposite.

As Sons of Horus I'm bit biased but howabout them? They can do shooty but also close combat and at short range can be vicious enough.

Alpha legion is also one force I have been eyeballing as ally force. They can offer rather interesting sneaky infiltrating in your face and if your opponent is taking lots of reserves they can be plain rude preventing them from coming and brining their own instead! Certainly have felt one of the most unique ones and I'm now planning doing bit of similar style sons of horus recon company just for laughs. Alpha's still master of that but small style!

I would say you should pick depending on several points:

1) Colour scheme. Choose a legion best suited to your painting skills. If you like painting and youre very good at it you may for example take Imperial Fists. If not take a legion with a simpler colour scheme like Iron Warriors. Or perhaps bloodied World Eaters might be a good pick.

2) Fluff. You must feel at least a little connection to your choice.

3) Style of play. Pick a legion most suited to your style of play. Assault? Pick World Eaters. Shooting? Iron Warriors. Etc

4) Last but not least models. Most of the legions use the same models but you can try to pick your legion based on the Primarch and special units.

Unless you want the narrative hook with Emp's Children, go Word Bearers. Right evil bastards with amazing unique minis. Gal Vorbak, Layak and Slaves. Erebus and Kor Phaeron.

if you can't decide, choose Alpha Legion, that way you can play all of them. seriously though, Alpha Legion is, to me at least, fun to play, after all what other legion can let you possibly blow up a vehicle before the first turn. with a particular rite of war you can use another legions special units, and when combined with mutable tactics it can be rather hilarious.

I mean I'm totally biased but.. I'd go 12th. They have some of the most interesting characters from the HH (Kharn, Angron, Lotirra, Delvarius, Lhorke, Kargos... etc) and there source material is amazing (After Desh'ae, Betrayer, Butchers Nails, Kharn - Eater of Worlds, and feature in the early Heresy books).

Lastly what's not to love about madmen running at you with Chainaxes, rip'n tear baby.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

Thousand Sons and World Eaters have some pretty good fluff if you want the tragic villains.

Emperor's Children have some pretty sweet regal looking guys/paint schemes.

If you want the most evil traitors, there's always the Word Bearers, Sons of Horus, and Night Lords.

I might be wrong, but I've always seen the Death Guard and Iron Warriors as the most neutral and callous of the Traitor Legions.

Or just go Alpha Legion and play every Legion's units

Looking for the Rest of the II Legion

I’ll support the idea of Thousand Sons. Beautiful models and a killer fluff background.

Well, each chapter has their own draws; but what does it for me are the characters. To that end, its a tie between Thousand Sons, and War Hounds (World Eaters). I mean, on the one hand, Magnus is tragic, Ahriman is tragic, the WHOLE DAMN CHAPTER being Vaporized and bound to their empty suits of armour is tragic, but there are memes to be had. Seriously, if you haven't watched "If The Emperor Had a Text-to-Speech Device" on youtube, DO IT NOW. On the other, Angron is both tragic AND memey; and everyone knows how swell a guy Kharn is...

Honestly, its up to you, so pick what makes YOU happy my dude.

When firepower takes up the entirety and eternity of space and time, all beings stuck in a neverending life and death cycle as bullets recover and destroy their bodies in quick succession. No one is able to think about anything but the sheer force of the bullets rapidly flying literally everywhere in the materium turning the warp itself into nothing but a sea of semi-automatic weaponry.. Then there will be enough dakka. Or, at least almost." -The Glorious God Emperor of Mankind

Pretty happy with Sons of Horus right now. I've played them in 8 games, they hold their own when they're not winning. Still getting a feel for all the rules, but it seems like the least complicated army to play. Horus himself is a beast.

I think it will be Sons of Horus. I have an army plan in mind now, with Abaddon as my leader.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies and lads.

Are SoH really evil? Like, Word Bearers evil? I don't think so. Even the Black Legion is known to be "irreligious" in 40k. I'd place them on the middle of the evil spectrum.

We can make this simple: which Legion do you like to paint/like the unique models for? That's why I'm picking up some Alpha Legion when I already have Raven Guard and a small selection of Dark Angels (the latter needing to be rebased)

I'm totally not bias, but my favourite traitor legion is the 12th.

They have some amazing lore behind them and some of the best books in the series (Betrayer is amazing). On top of that they have some of my favourite characters from the Horus Heresy (Angron, Kharn, Lotirra, Delvarius).

On top of all that... who doesn't love madmen who want nothing more then Rip 'n Tearing it up. The story of Angron is tragic and the more I've read about him the more I love him. 12th for life baby!

Alpha Legion and Thousand Sons were always my favorites. I liked the Sons of Horus quite a bit, but the Black Legion is a very different beast compared to the original Sons of Cthonia... I don't even know if the majority of the legion is from the OG legion.

Alpha Legion are great because they're like a crazy combination of every spy organization and spec ops teams you see in movies. Completely overblown and ridiculous, but it's great for the setting.

Thousand Sons because Ahriman kicks ass and the idea of an army of walking suits of power armor filled with dust being led by Sorcerers spamming spells just makes me smile.

Praying to get a game of 9th edition in before Summer.

This is in the 30k forum and the answer is still Word Bearers.

Emperors Children would be a good antithesis to your Iron Hands, but as someone who recently started building an Alpha Legion army I'd add my vote to them. They're pretty strong, versatile and most importantly they're fun. All legions have their own perks and great pieces of lore. Word Bearers, allow you to be completely different from the Iron Hands fighting in a very different style, plus their motivations are interesting. Iron Warriors allow you to play a similar style to the Iron Hands if that's your preferred playstyle. And Sons of Horus are always a great choice from what I've seen. If all else fails, models and which primarch and characters you prefer in looks and lore are a big factor in my opinion. It's not a cheap game so having models you like the look of and represent characters you find interesting is a good barometer.
