“The Cult of The Rising Sun”

“For as the rising sun brings the coldness of night to its end, so I have come to bring an end to toil and bitterness. Let every land set aside their Wrath and Despair, and release the empty promises of Change, for I am the Joy and Now and the Vindication of Life. I will love you as no other has or ever will, and you shall love Me in turn; with your bodies, with your minds and with your souls. I shall be your wife and your husband, your mistress and your lover, and in My arms you will find Purpose and Delight. Pleasure beyond all imagining is mine to bestow, if only you take me into your hearts"

—The Verse of Slaanesh

My Slaaneshi Pleasure Cult of the Possessed for Mordheim...

The Cult of The Rising Sun is a savage and sadistic Warband of Drucii renegades bent on spreading the warm rays of the dark prince across the length and breadth of the Old World. These Dark Elves believe themselves to be the superior race of their kin, meant to lead the Drucii to victory and prosperity through the comfort of their mother god, Slaanesh. They live to spread their hyper-violence and sadism to all who stand in their way, while also aiming to create a new home worthy of their Dark Prince - a land of unrestricted pleasure, peace and decadence.

The Cult of The Rising Sun’s worshippers adorn themselves in shining Golden, Drucii Armor - their lowly Dark Elven cultists also wearing the flayed hides of Khornate hounds and Slaaneshi Warp beasts. Their Leader, The debased and horrifying Magister Laeresh Daraxar hangs a cape fashioned from the flayed flesh of his many victims from the back of his Golden Armor.

So here’s what we have thus far....

Magister Laeresh Daraxar

Drucii Mutant Champions of Slaanesh

The Drucii Cultist Horde

Now for the works in progress....

The Mysterious Darksoul

The Flawless one, the Holy one, the Favoured Child of Slaanesh: The Possessed

The final Slaaneshi Dark Elf mutant champion ...

Always loved this classic model and, like many of the Slaanesh champions, thought he was fitting for the Drucii cults of pleasure.

I’ll be painting him next, then probably the Holy One.

Great job on the old Champion. Such an iconic model. That Darksoul is really good, as well. The new helmet looks perfect.

@youwashock & @KernelTerror: thank you! It’s a small project, but a really fun one and absolutely my favorite corner of warhammer fantasy battle lore. That hooded Slaanesh Champion was a model I’ve always loved - one of those iconic sculpts that never gets old and is very disturbingly fitting for the dark prince (and in this case also the Drucii).

Another update...

The Great Holy Radiant One has Cometh!

That’s it for now... soon I’ll be working on a couple more units in order to expand this small cult into a relatively large Warband for proper Fantasy Battles.

More to come!

@goblinpaladin: Thank you! I love the Slaaneshi spider-man lol. the old realms of chaos models really had some nice, disturbing sculpts that were really fitting to their respective god... I hope they bring back the scarier version of chaos in the future sculpts.

Minor update:

So the latest model in the Cult of The Rising Sun Collection is this Guy:

A Slaaneshi Druchii assassin - the ears of Daraxar... constantly hiding in the shadows to support his sadistic comrades, a masterful torturer, blood hound and most importantly always on the look out for any anarchy within the ranks. He is an enforcer for the Cult by simply being there.. lurking.. somewhere...

I wanted to retain some consistency with the golden armor, but also wanted to make sure I kept this model relatively modest by comparison to the rest - I don’t think any self respecting assassin would wear bright colors (or at the very least a nice dark cloak to hide them under!).

I also have these... the Black Guard of Slaanesh...

This unit of Slaaneshi Black Guard marks the beginning of this mordheim Warband transitioning into a full fledged army (although, even then I think it’ll still be a relatively small collection). I’m very excited to begin these models, they were always some of my favorite from the Dark Elves range.

Finally I took a group picture of the Cult of The Rising Sun thus far...

... that’s it for now - more to come!

@Boss Salvage: Thank you so much! This has been, without a doubt, one of the most fun hobby projects I’ve done thus far... the character of the old metal chaos champions really adds so much flavor to this Warband (as well as some good disturbing qualities - I have a crazy love for the old range of chaos minis and how they can all be, to a greater or lesser degree, either goofy and fun or grotesque and nightmarish). Plus as far as the metal goes... it’s definitely a blessing and a curse! I think I can speak for many when I say that I both Love and loathe metal. There’s just a charm to pewter. Maybe it’s nostalgia or even the literal weightiness of each mini, but there’s just so much quality in these metals.

So another update: I’ve began work on the summoned Daemonettes and finished the first half of the unit...

These classic Juan Diaz sculpts are a joy to paint. They bring back so many great memories reading the old Liber Chaotica books - I can see all those sketchy crazed drawings of these Daemonettes now.

When I painted the Daemonettes I tried my best to make sure that they would seem somewhat different from the mortals in the Cult, while still coherent in the scheme. I made their skin tones slightly darker and more greyed out as opposed to the more off-white of the Dark Elves. I also wanted to make the claws and hair a more rich and slightly deeper red - almost as if the Daemonettes were the envy of the worshippers, that their “mortal mutations” aren’t exactly like the “real” thing.

Well, that’s it for now. Next up I’ll be working on the next half of the Holy Handmaidens and then possibly the Dark Riders... more to come.

@amazingturtles: thank you! I always thought that the slaves to darkness should always be strange parodies of the deities they worshipp, despite those daemons being twisted parodies of the sentient thoughts and emotions that spawn them.. such is a insane cycle of chaos I suppose. Either way I’m glad I was able to do the Daemonettes sculpts Justice!

Ok another update:

So I’ve finished the Slaaneshi Dark Riders.

A very elite clique of shock cavalry, this minor guild within the Cult of The Rising Sun is held in very high regard. Only the most savage, decadent, quick witted and experienced scouts and hunters within the Cult even have a shred of a chance to gain the opportunity to join the terrifying coven within the Rising Sun known as the Cult of the Sixth Circle.

The Sixth Circle is highly selective in its members, only ever accepting Druchii and never exceeding Six members. Whispered Legends of The Rising Sun’s enemies say that The Dark Prince herself personally gifted Magister Laeresh and the Holy Radiant One Six of his prized Steeds... only when a member of the Sixth circle is killed can new Druchii replacement be chosen, and even then the process is rigorous - having any of those proud and brave enough to take the place pass Six horrifyingly dangerous “tests” to prove their loyalty and companionship to his or her peers. What these tests are is a mystery to all save the Sixth circle and Magister Laeresh himself. Only the most sadistic and skilled warrior of Slaanesh has the will and prestige to ride upon a Daemonic mount spawned from the hellscape of The Dark Prince’s palace...

When I began painting the Sixth Circle I wanted them to be very different from the Cult of The Rising Sun yet still coherent with the rest of the Warband. I decided to make them very dark in comparison to the other Cultists, using more jet black and darker brown shades on the daemonic mounts. I kept the Cults staple Gold armor, but made the mounts, despite being revered like the Daemonettes, much darker as well - even making the red hair on them similar to the worshipper’s Slaaneshi mutations. I suppose I did this because while the steeds are powerful gifts- they are still tools to be used by their honored circle. As for the overall color scheme I wanted more of a “striking” look rather than bright like the rest. I imagine these Slaaneshi Dark Riders always scouting at night or in the shadows of forests, swamps and the like on the edge of battle - only to dart swiftly from the shade to strike flanks or sow anarchy in enemy camps.

That’s it for now. Up next is a project I’ve been worksing on for some time now and can’t wait to reveal. Until then... more to come!

@Boss Salvage: Thank you! I think that’s one of the channging, but fun things about this project is making everything coherent, but also having some units be a bit more unique.

@comradepanda: LMAO well, good thing this is an open relationship.

Ok so another update!

This update consists of something very fun I did on the side for The Cult of The Rising Sun’s rise to power in Slaanesh’s name:

Deep within the caves and caverns near the Cult of The Rising Sun’s camps harbor hordes of wretched, savage and mischievous allies.

Eldritch chanting, gibbering and evil, high pitched laughter can be heard echoing in the night seconds before the Druchii ambush their pray.

“Pain fer da Pleasure snake, Pleasure fer pain’s sake!

Pain fer da Pleasure snake, Pleasure fer pain’s sake!

Pain fer da Pleasure snake, Pleasure fer pain’s sake!”

Swarms of Slaanesh worshipping Night Goblins swarm enemy camps and barracks before the Druchii arrive. Led by their monstrous (well, monstrous by Goblinoid standards!) Mutated Chaos Goblin sorcerer the Great Bumbeeno!

With fell magicks and sadistic savagery the Bumbeeno leads his pleasure-seeking Goblins to greater and greater heights of depravity and decadence in the name of their holy god - The Radiant Possessed One.

In return for their worship and service, the Cult of The Rising Sun constantly supplies these Night Goblins with psychedelic Daemon-Mushrooms.

“The Kult of False Dawn”

Some close ups of the Great Sorcerer Bumbeeno himself...

This was a ridiculously fun side project to bolster the ranks of the Druchii Pleasure Cult! I’ve always loved goblins and wanted a way to fit some into the Rising Son’s ranks.

Next up is this:

The Savage and craven Druchii Possessed!

Well, that’s it for now. Soon I’ll be painting up some of these crazed, skin-stealing maniacs along with converting some other very exciting projects... more to come!

Black Hole NJ

Alright, so here’s a big update and the unveiling of one of the major projects for the Pleasure Cult!

See him there! Many limbed and jewel-eyed; most beguiling of all immortals. He moves with such grace, his actions so measured and sensual, yet he is deadly indeed! He is the Despoiler of Innocence and Defiler of Purity. He knows my thoughts, just as he knows yours, and hears every word that is spoken anywhere throughout the dimensions. He is the Keeper of Secrets and he forgets nothing he has heard. How many fools have sought to summon the Keeper to bargain for the Secrets he carries? Of those deluded few, how many have survived with their souls intact? I doubt their numbers could fill a single carriage.

To gaze upon the Keeper is to love him, and to love him is to know despair, for there is no charity in this creature, only malevolence. He is a spiteful and cruel lover, both obsessive and demanding. He takes his pleasure from the sadistic domination of all those around him, finding titillation in the despairing screams of his victims and arousal in their pain-wracked convulsions”
- Richter Kless, The Liber Chaotica, Vol. 2 - Slaanesh.

The Twin Torture Sisters of Darkness and Delight, The Keepers of The Rising Sun....

I have been planning and sketching these two for some time and eventually settled for very subtle conversions...

The First of the Torture Twins I will be painting: Bacchus, Keeper of Secrets....

Well, that’s it for now... more to come soon.

Love the =][= twins, always happy to see them show up again, particularly in Slaaneshi contexts Curious how they'll look with paint, in particular the weird mask / bionic faces. No doubt pretty sweet.

Also I dig the Slaanesh goblins, and although I would have liked to see some sort of conversion or more overt nod to the Dark Prince, I can respect wanting to keep them simple by acknowledging an already existing fluff opening for Slaanesh perversion (i.e. psychogenic shrooms). Props on linking that sorcerer model to them, fits well!

Aside on game stuff: I'm thinking you'll want to use the twins as daemon princesses? Not just from a points or effectiveness perspective, but because they're also quite small for Keepers. I mean, sure they're taller than the OG metal KOS, and probably not overly different from the 'current' ones, but the new plastic one, once it lands, is going to dwarf these chicks - and their bases - judging by the other plastic greaters.

@Boss Salvage: Thank you! Yeah, as far as the Night Goblins go I was torn between doing some converting or sticking with the sculpts... I ended up using the normal sculpts because I really wanted to just have them as they were, and since narratively It still makes sense with the Cult supplying their mushrooms lol, that and I can use them as normal goblins for WHFRP GMing and other scenarios. As for the Keepers size, I don’t really mind the scale only because the group I Game with is very laid back especially with me since most models in my collection are based/converted more out of “rule of cool” lol - they know I’m not modeling for advantage (plus I’m very laid back, if they were out of sight for instance I’d probably just let my opponent attack or shoot them).

So, a very quick update:

I actually had time tonight to paint Bacchus!

Bacchus, Keeper of Secrets, Architect of Exquisite Agonies...

Bacchus was another extremely fun model to convert and paint! With her (and also soon with her twin) I really wanted to make her seem “Exorcist-esque” in that I painted the latex bodysuit as her own flesh, with the rips as actual cuts into her skin. I also tried to keep with the “extra red” as with the Daemonic entities of the Cult on her claws... additionally, I tried my best to get a very “scorched” look to her high-heeled boots - kind of like hoofs... but, not really lol. Either way I hope it turned out ok. Her sister will stick with the overall theme, but with slightly different tattoos and possibly red leather instead of black? I’m still on the fence about it.

Well, that’s it again... next up I think I’ll takena stab at some of the Possessed Druchii or the Sister Keeper... more to come!

Yep, she looks great And so quickly done too!

I'm pretty shocked I've not seen these models painted as flesh before, well done with the rents = cuts. I can see the Exorcist connection, reminded of Hellraiser as well (skin suits and all that).
