I've pre-ordered it, but didn't get a beta key. I am looking forward to it, I liked aspects of the first game, well.. enough of it to give the sequel a try anyway.

Odd, I bought it on Saturday or Friday and got the beta. Really looking forward to it, although with only three missions it feels a bit lite. Played a bit with Kerillian and loved it, managed to unlock the handmaiden class. Spear felt interesting. Can't wait to try halberd on Markus. They've definitely put some effort in creating the right atmosphere, the chanting of nurgle sorcerers and diversity of bosses (Chaos Spawn just doesn't want to die) is great.

Ah, just to clarify, I buy a lot of Steam games either through Humble Bundle or another above the board discounter, so chances are beta keys are not part of their lineup.

Though it's only what..? Two or so days until release at this point?

I'm looking forward to seeing how the classes work this time around, I used to play a lot as the Empire Soldier (Markus was it?) where I loved using a rifle and sword combo to decent effect.

That's wise. I'm far too impulsive, thought to skip vermintide 2 until someone mentioned to me that you can have a spear and Kerillian has a high elf class.

Yes, two more days, with servers being down at the moment.

I pre-loaded the game and found out I could run the beta, so I played through the tutorial. While I miss my rifle, the bow was a fine replacement. The game looks good and with some tweaking on the mouse sensitivity it plays fine as well.

It'll be interesting to see how the different classes play out, and perhaps more importantly, if they've fixed the ruddy drops / rewards system, as I hate getting crap gear for any class but the class I was playing as.

It's pretty good so far, I just wish they would stop the vermintide 1 type of nerfs (i.e. murdering a character until everything has been nerfed, then moving onto the next whilst leaving the actual problem characters alone)

I'm liking it for the most part. It's still rough around the edges with some glitches. The community isn't too bad. I like playing iron breaker, which doesn't get many kills but can control crowds and plug a choke point. The drop system is improved so you get equipment for the character you're playing. Now that it has released there's a lot more maps.

grab a flamer. I'm doing the same with ironbreaker, and it murders everything but armored enemies, and hordes become a joke. Properties to look for are crit, and reduce overheat on crit to never worry about overheating.

Gave it a go just now as the elf and yes! The game has seen some solid improvements. There's some stutters here and there when playing, but so far, so good for me.

Also really happy with the new drop system, it's either all character-specific or generic stuff that can be used by all, so..

Given it a go this morning, and holy fething cheeseballs is it difficult.
It's like playing the first one on Nightmare, with the worst gear possible.

But at least you can still get loot for failing, so very slowly getting somewhere.

That aside, it's so polished. Been a long time since I've had a game on release that's this damn fine.

The voice lines are well done and not annoying either, I quite like the jibs and insults they fling at one another when using health items or missing with a ranged attack.

Managed to unlock the Handmaiden option, still need to get used to it.

First 6 or so runs is solid, but when you start getting gear, gets doable pretty quickly.
Once you get past the low levels that didn't pay attention to the tutorial, to people that played the 1st one, things get easier still.

Quite a strange difficulty curve.
Having very few issues with the Ironbreaker, using a flamethrower and pickaxe. Pretty capable against anything.

The amount of weapon options so far is nice as well. Just for the elf there are two bow types and I don't know how many melee options, but so far I've had a sword, sword and dagger, two daggers, an axe, a greatsword and a spear, all having their own style and feel when in combat.

Is this a game that is best played, if one have tried the previous game in the series? Been seeing a fair few videos of the game and have been somewhat considering getting it

I have never played the first one and I am loving the second. From other people who have played the first one though, I'm told that this game is a lot harder than the first. The characters know each other and the game doesn't really introduce certain npc's as it expects you to already know them, but all in all you can play it out the box, no need to have played the first.

Sgt. Vanden I bet Irish can do that by flashing his bear chest.

Personally I actually find this one, aside from one or two bs moments, easier than the first game. It's still a nice challenge, but less frustrating at least, though this is also due to the improved drop system and removal / replacement of the gakky dice system from the first one for drops.

Rat Ogres and their ilk are still a bitch to deal with and they sometimes spawn in annoying places which makes dealing with them an utter arse as you can't get around them without getting mauled in the process.

The random placement of items is also a bit.. iffy from time to time. Sometimes the early game floods you with health potions, when you really don't need them yet, but late level you're forced to get by without any for large stretches.

There's not much you need to know about the first game other than that there are more Skaven, the characters love to snark and snipe at one another as they fight and now chaos raiders have joined the fray, so more interesting things to kill.

The first person combat has a delightful crunch and feel to it without being too technical, whether you're swinging a halberd through three ratties at once or whirling your way through a horde with a pair of knives while spraying dark ichor everywhere, it feels good.

Nice large maps with plenty of variety and objectives. I'm sure we'll see DLC expansions further down the road like with the first game, but if those are of any indication, they'll be worth the money asked for as they're as big as the originals.

Yeah it's once you hit champion/legend that the BS really starts to show. Getting a bile troll (easily the worst boss) with a horde and 6 CC specials (leeches, pack rats, gutter runners or stormers) and a chaos patrol with 4 chosen becomes pretty common, especially once you hit a choke point, and it's really obvious in say, "against the grain" if anyone wants a quick example to test themselves.

Yeah, trolls are annoying, especially when they heal faster than you can properly damage them, turning it into a long and drawn out affair that the AI director will sometimes make even worse by throwing more hordes at you because it thinks you're stationary for too long.

Worst one for me was when we went through the Rat Ogre pens (can't remember the map name) where the cages are stacked up high and the way through was narrow with no side roads. What does the game spawn in my path? A flipping Stormfiend with flamethrowers that wouldn't budge, was an arse to get past and attack from behind and kept spraying fire every five seconds.

Ugh.

That said, still love the game, just that some moments..

Twice in a row I got a game breaking bug (private game). Last mission, the greyseer somehow disappears, but his voice is still played. It gives you an impression that he's behind the large doors shouting commands at his minions. I give the game a point in role playing but I'd really like to finish the last level.

Yeah, reached the final boss mission once, but when I went back through the portal I wound up losing one of my bots, who went into DBNO state in that small section between Norsca and the caverns, with no way of recovering it.

So yeah, one arse of a boss fight, zero healing items, already one bot down, it didn't go well for me, especially because it's not obvious straight away how certain steps of the fight are handled.

I doubt we'll be getting more classes, but instead more maps and cosmetics.

I've yet to see any cosmetics drop mysel, plus the illusions are also broken? I've had several items with illusions so far, but I fail to see what makes them stand out from other weapons.

Some are really minor, but some (like the orange/red illusions) are easily noticeable, like these

How does it compare to the 1st game? I got the first one for free on Xbox a while ago, but I just played it once.. it felt kinda dull. Reminded me a lot of the Dragon Age 3 multiplayer, which I also wanted to like a lot but just didn't.
