Sewer rats is probably one of the few truely useful strategems for Tyranid armies.. especially genestealer hordes.

I am revisiting my plan for a genestealer horde for use in CoD and this is what I've come up with...

Sewer rats will always be my choice for strategem. Other strategems will vary based on the enemy and mission, but combat engineers looks promising.

Here we go:

HQ-
1x Hive Tyrant (Wings, Miasma, Sacs, Hooks, Warp Field, 2x Scytals) - 188

1x Broodlord (Sacs, Hooks, Carapace) - 93
+ 7x retinue (Hooks) - 119

Elites-
1x Carnifex (Senses, 2x TL Devourers) - 113
1x Carnifex (Senses, 2x TL Devourers) - 113

Troops-
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204
12x Genestealers (Hooks) - 204

Total: 1850

I know what you're all thinking... OMG! No carapace on the stealers! Well, my thinking is that with sewer rats, they get to come on 6" from the marker, and then get to fleet. With good placement of the markers, I can get them all behind or within close distance of buildings, and move the stealers into said buildings to get 4+ cover saves. Next turn, move them out, and hoepfully get a charge with minimal casualties. This list has 79 genestealers, a broodlord, 2 dakkafexes for thinning out large squads, and handling landspeeders, as well as a nasty close combat flyrant.

With combat engineers in gamma/omega, I can use smoke grenades to gain a 5+ cover save if any squads are left in the open in the turn before they charge.

Any thoughts?

What is your solution to the occasional big vehicle or monolith heavy Necron list?

Even Devilfish are Arm12 to the front, another tough contender.

Gunfexes would be way better. make up the points by cutting a few stealers.

I totally understand why you wouldn't buy carapace in cityfight. Watch out for for flamers though (not that you probably see a lot of those).

Aye, skimmers and vehicles in general might be hard to handle. My thinking on not taking gunfexes was that LOS is so limited in CoD, they may never be able to range in on a vehicle against a good opponent.. especially if the opponent is using skimmers... it would be very easy to keep them out of LoS.

Rmember: Only one unit can come out of each sewer every turn. If you only roll 4 and your opponent blocks 2, that could be quite problematic.

Also, remember that you won't be able to charge the turn you pop out - between this and the above, and don't know that a dedicated sewer rat list is all that great for dedicated CC troops.
