I've been having trouble making my Mechanised Guard lists work recently. Especially against armies with good AT capability. I find that I can't seem to bring enough heavy weapons to deal with enemy tanks. I've got a friend who uses Mars Ad Mech and I'm particularly struggling against him. His buffed Onagers plow through my tanks I in the first couple of turns and I end up with no heavy support.
Below is a typical list I'd take. The theory being that I use the spearhead detachment as a base of fire, and the Mechanised infantry to move around and capture objectives or deal with infantry. The storm troopers generally hold back and deep strike where they're most effective. A couple more things to bear in mind.
- This list is partially dedided by the models i actually own right now. Other models I've got that I could include are a Valkyrie/Vulture with magnetised weapons and a squad of 3 armoured sentinels with magentised weapons. I don't mind splashing out a little on new models but can't afford to start from scratch!
- I know Mech Guard aren't the best right now, and infantry would work better. But I'd really like to make Mech Guard work. I love the idea and I only play casually so don't need to be super competitive.
- This is a homebrew regiment, so I don't like the idea of mixing doctrines within the army. I'm sticking to Armageddon because it more closely matches the theme of my regiment.
