Let pistols in CC give X attacks with the pistol's stats where X is the number of shots of the pistol, instead of shooting it in the shooting phase like now. This'd make plasma pistols and similar special pistols more useful on melee units and also help some units that were adversely affected by the pistol rules changes between 7th and 8th get some oomph back.

So you want to deepstrike, shoot, charge, fight and get bonus attacks thatvare basically shooting again?

You dont see that as a problem?

What I'd really like is that anything that happens within, say, eight inches, counts as CC. So that way, you can shoot pistols in "cc", and you can win or lose a really close-in firefight just like you can win or lose close combat, and you can't shoot your pistols twice like if you could use them in CC.

I'm Agreeing with Lance on this one.

That just makes pistols like last edition. And the last thing you would want is the old +1 attack from pistols, cause that then makes chainswords or their equivalent rather useless again.

That would mean a tactical Squad of SM would have the same attack output as a jump pack squad cause they would get that pistol attack.

A lot of units that have the pistol/Melee (berserkers,cultist,jumpack squads,crusaders,banshee's,striking scorpion,ect.) would get a HUGE boost, while total melee units would be left in the dust.

No, because you can already to the same with Rapid Fire weapons.

Currently: Marine with bolter Deep Strikes, fires two bolt shots and charges, getting 2 Bolter-equivalent attacks plus his normal attacks.

Under my suggestion: Marine with Bolt Pistol Deep Strikes, fires a shot with his pistol and charges, getting 2 Bolter-equivalent attacks plus his normal attacks.

Only if you can replace your Chainsword with a Bolt Pistol, and even then the Chainsword still benefits from melee buffs in a way the pistol doesn't (Khorne Berzerkers are innately S5, for instance).

You do realize that the Assault Squad also has Bolt Pistols, yes? They'd get the same bonus and thus stay ahead of Tactical Squads.

So buff any other melee unit that needs it. Why is it a problem that we're buffing a bunch of units (Berzerkers and Cultists excluded) that pretty much everyone agrees is pretty bad? That's the entire point!

EDIT: And if double-Plasma Vanguard Veterans (the unit I could think of that'd benefit the most) terrifies everyone just make it a choice between shooting in the shooting phase or fight phase. This lessens the risk of killing enough stuff that you can't make your charge while not interacting with double-pistol models in the same way.

Except 1) pistols are not rapid fire weapons.

and

2) Plasma Pistols become rapid fire plasma.

Seriously... wtf.

I think that pistols in general should be used in the assault phase.They should have a shooting and melle profile like a laser lance for eldar.

They should have an additional rule that says only 1 attack can be made with the weapon.

So a marine sargent with a plasma pistol could shoot his pistol charge then use 1 attack with his chain sword and 1 attack with his plasma pistol.

Maybe units with pistols can shoot them at a unit as it falls back from combat.
