Got a (rare) game of X-Wing coming up at my gaming club this week and was thinking of flying this, not sure on the Chopper plus freebys loadout as I suspect FAA or R2 are both better choices, have at it

That's the one.

You're almost better with an FAA in the first few turns AND in the furball when arcs get tighter, because it'll allow you to bring Fenn's ability to bear. Even if regen of a sort is alluring.

Now have at it and feel like a brick wall getting eggs thrown at.

I'm just going to remind the OP that his prospective opponent has played at maximum twice in the last two years and hasn't got anything even remotely new outside of a similar time period.

As a consequence, that list might be a bit sharp and pointy for a friendly game against someone who's effectively a born again noob.

Oh dear god stay away from this list then. Ghost/Fenn is an oppressively powerful list even in competitive play, against someone who hasn't played in a couple of years and doesn't have a strong list you're just going to 100-0 them without even trying.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

That was my fear, while Turnip is nowhere near a WAAC type of player, the chap he's playing was firmly at the casual end before he discovered girls and disappeared for two years, and in an area where every regular attendee of the local club is precious, someone dipping their toe back in after so much time away probably could do with easing themselves back in a little more before getting their teeth kicked in. Plus I know that Turnip doesn't particularly enjoy steamrollering people outside of a competition either.

@Turnip
I don't know what he ran against Hawkeye last week, but to give you some context I think it was a Hounds Tooth led Scum list, which, IIRC, was what he was flying when he was last paying regularly.

Oh dear. No, that list is better kept for a savy opponent.

The three T-70s list with Intensity and Comms Relay, FAA and Autothrusters is much more manageable, requires fancy flying and will feel more like a game (as well as introduce more variance in the results).

Whilst 'tidying' found the box with the Howlrunner/AP swarm, looks like time to fly badly and grump at hateful green dice

Always a good backup plan. I tried my hardest to lose with that and failed. Miserably.

I'm generally okay with the opening joust but then there's all that turning around, rock dodging and trying to keep at least a few ships in Howlrunner's bubble

Hell yeah. The key to flying howly swarm is to bump as much as possible, hit every rock you can and if you are really, really cunning fly off the board. I have found the enemy never expect it!

If one wanted to club baby seals, the r3a2 astro on Fenn would be a good call, turns off pesky expertise epts... almost a necessity if you're going to run sensor jammer on the ghost.

yep seems to be a lot of Expertise floating about but stress-bot shuts off Fenn's pilot ability so comes down the call of how prevalent Expertise is or becomes

Seems to depend entirely on meta, its pretty prevalent online from what I have seen especially on ships like quickdraw. Stress causing is a reasonable answer to both Fenn and expertise (as well as Maul if you can stack it), but being able to hit the sweet spot of stressing and still causing damage is tricky (unless you play Asajj.

True. I just think it's a good tool for the tournament toolbox

I think its worth a bit of testing as Expertise ships wont generally care about Fenn's ability so its a nice option to have

Agreed, I have been playing around with hwk290s for just that reason (TLT, tactician).
