EDIT: The Open beta has begun!

Play now on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Everguild.HorusHeresy

Original post below:

“I was there, the day Horus slew the Emperor.”
– Garviel Loken.

JOIN A LODGE. LEAD A LEGION. CONQUER THE GALAXY.

The Horus Heresy: Legions is a mobile card game where your actions lead to real consequences. An open beta is coming to Google Play Early Access on March 15 on Android devices.

Build a deck of unstoppable Space Marines, join a warrior lodge with other players and take part together in epic Events where the winning Faction secures permanent, game-changing effects. Play as Loken, Khârn, Fulgrim and many more fan favourite characters in this collectible card game as you fight key battles from The Horus Heresy, one of the richest settings in the vast Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Head to www.horusheresylegions.com before the game is out to win in-game rewards! First 1,000 will get additional content worth $20 on top of that!

The open beta will be nearly feature-complete and include 300 cards to do battle with four starting Legions: Sons of Horus, Emperor's Children, World Eaters and Death Guard. More Legions will be added in the future. A single-player campaign will immerse players in the tragic events at Isstvan III that marked the beginning of the Heresy, while different PvP formats will let players prove their mettle in fast and exciting online duels and thrilling events.

All progress made playing the Open Beta will carry over the full release, coming later this year to both Android and iOS.

We will be keeping an eye on this forum. Feel free to ask anything!

Yes. All currencies can be earned for free through regular play. Here is the breakdown:

1. Event Tickets get you access to Events.
2. Coins get you card and cosmetic crates.
3. Gems get you individual cards and cosmetics.

Event Tickets and Coins can also be acquired as in-app purchases.

The same way you earn gold and dust in Hearthstone? Which, in other words means that you must grind 24/7 to get a slightest chance to earn something decent, or be doomed to sit with the most basic cards for at least a year, if you happen to log in a few times a week for a casual play? Unless, one would like to - VERY CONVENIENTLY - buy some boosters for irl cash?

Cool, sounds good.

Hope it won't be the type of freemium game (will it be free actually?) that allows for an unfair balance.

Other than that it will most definitely get a try (once iOS version is released).

So like any other CCG you’re gonna have to sink lots of cash into it if you want to win any games.

New round of info to clear doubts:

– The game will be free to download and play.
– Currently, our Events' format is sealed deck. Everyone will get to play many awesome decks with great cards they don't own yet from day one.
– There are many ways to get free cards: Daily quest, achievements, levelling up, taking part in Events with your Lodge, monthly season rewards, and more.
– The helmet from our profile picture, and our current game icon, is fitted with a M.30 'Mantilla' pattern respiration unit, a precursor of the MkV (from The Horus Heresy Book one: Betrayal, page 71). It was used during the Isstvan III Atrocity, which is where our game begins.

Signed up for beta. While im spoiled on how clean hearthstone looks compared to this games design, it fits the theme I suppose.

As for the many y people, the games totally how much you want to spend. I have friends who play hearthstone 100% free and don't grind and they make it in low rankings each month. Every month, if you do your quests you will earn 19 or so packs of cards. Not to mention the packs they give you got free for joining, or the packs they hand out for new expansions.

I imagine this game will follow suit. Skill > owning all da cards.

Boosters, mind you, that will be invalidated at the end of that year.

Actually, that's a nice question.

How are you thinking about balancing the releases? Will you split the "competitive" play in seasons and rotate some cards out every year?

Will you consider bans or fixes to cards that are wrecking the overall balance?

They're all nice questions. Keep them coming!

– How we plan to release new content is something we're really excited about and will start showing with our first Event when the Open Beta begins.
– There will be monthly seasons for competitive play.
– We will deal with new content being added to the game in a way that fits the unique fantasy of a civil war between Space Marine Legions, but you will never lose cards.
– Fixes over bans, always.

Hmm, giving me error pre registering. Bummer

And then it worked. Cool

How similar will this be to the engine for Drakenlords? I see that is the other CCG you make. I assume there will be parts of the same engine for both games.

BTW I should probably pre register with my Google play account in retrospect.

Thanks,
Duncan

Hey, Duncan,

Pre-registration rewards will come in the form of a code sent to your email. Then you can play on any device with any account to redeem it.

Both Drakenlords and Legions are built with the same engine, Unity. Gameplay-wise, you can expect a faster, smoother and more responsive experience, new mechanics fitting the Warhammer 30K universe, the addition of Lodges and the constant, game-changing faction wars in Events.

/thread

At least with scams like MTG you at least get a piece of paper for your obscene amount of money, this gives you all of the money pit of a CCG with none of the benefits.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Oh my, I did see some IA cards in the screenshots, but Mechanicum too? Nice!

I understand the beta is starting tomorrow but I'm getting very curious: is the game like MTG where each deck is made with "creatures","Spells","Instant" , etc. types of cards?

One of my biggest peeves with the juggernaut that's Hearthstone is the lack of interaction in the opponent's turn, and while I can understand they did it for simplicity, it cuts one heck of a strategic element.

Eternal is one that offers plenty of interaction in the opponent's turn.

Chaos as in Daemons, Cultists, and other such naer do wells. There's even a Daemon, IA, and Mechanicum warlord out for each of the non-space marine factions if you really want to avoid SM. (Was in closed beta)

Your deck in Legions is made out of troops (which can be Astartes, Infantry, Vehicles, Daemons or Structures) and Tactics (which include anything from a Krak grenade to an orbital bombardment). Unlike most cards games, your Warlord is in the battlefield along with their troops.

Currently there's no emphasis on interactions during the opponent's turn, but many cards have mechanics that can trigger during the opponent's turn. Many World Eater cards have Rage, a trait that causes an effect every time they take damage. This puts pressure on their opponents, who must tip toe around World Eaters to avoid enraging them, or forcing them into unfavourable trades to get rid of such effects.

As new Legions come into the game, each with their own set of strategies and mechanics, we will explore ways to make opponent interactions feel fun to play and play against. Which Legion would you think makes sense to have mechanics that happen during the opponent's turn?

On top of my head, I can think of 2 kinds of legions:

- The Sneaky ones, like Raven Guard and Night Lords. Since they have plenty of stealth tactics, they could surprise the enemy in their turn.

- The Siege ones, like Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists. Considering how they are siege masters, I can imagine "traps" built by them to frak up the attackers.

That makes sense. Thanks for the inspiration!
