Hey guys!

I've been looking at these guys a lot recently and my LGS is having a painting competition so it seems like the perfect time to grab a little something to paint from the army to start small. I'm not really worried about how good things are but I'd like to buy something that won't EVER see the table. Are there any things that are straight up garbage right now I should avoid?

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

Sylvaneth are pretty upper mid tier, but maiinly from abusing the wild wood rule and spamming the hell out of the hunters.

Sylvaneth have a small roster and pretty much everything they have has their own niche functionality you don't get elsewhere.

Closest to useless is probably the branchwraith, she's functionally a less fight branchwych but her unique spell allows her to spawn dryads in small numbers - useless in matched play because you have to pay reinforcement points for those dryads and you pay in increments of ten: if she summons 9 dryads you pay for 10, if she summons 2 dryads you pay for 10, if she summons 12 dryads you pay for 20. Beyond that, being able to summon a small amount of dryads isn't super impressive because dryads aren't super impressive in small numbers, and overall a branchwych beats her out.

Basically that's the only one I would never take to the table. And it isn't even because she's bad but because she directly competes with the branchwych for the 'cheap sylvaneth wizard' category and with the broadly superior mist weaver saih and lore master if you're expanding into the order wizard options sylvaneth can take.

Spite Revenants are better now that they're cheaper and battleline, but generally speaking I take a squad of them for the spooky effects they have and often try to avoid getting them sucked into combat where they generally die.

Kurnoth Hunters are great great units. Their sword configuration is probably their worst build, but still very, very far from useless.
