I'm interested to know what people's favourite models are. This is for painting, building, lore and gaming all in one.
It's hard but for me it has to be the exalted sorcerors. There is so much customisation and converting you can do with them, they look amazing, painting them is fun because of how much detail there is. Their lore is pretty.cool, they command legions of dust warriors kept alive by their psychic presence. On the table they are meh but still are a staple for a large TS list. They are just all around awesome.
It was the first model tank I ever put together, when I was about 9 years old (to go with my MARX WW2 toy set). I've been smitten by the shape and power of the tank ever since that first model.
I love the OOPFW chaos dreadnoughts, with the missile launcher arm, not that puny looking CC weapon. It helps that I'm not keen on the regular plastic helbrute

Is that the ccw that looks like a garden rake?
Mine has to be the 3rd ed space marines, was just amazed when they first came out, how the bodies could be articulated

Too many, for different reasons. I started with grots because they're cool and funny. Deleted the list when I realised I had 25 models on the list and hadn't paused for breath yet....
One of the very few which has been a continual favourite of mine; Mordheim Freelance Knight.
Gorgeous mini. Perfect detail. Screams "Warhammer Fantasy" to me. Just ornate enough without being ridiculous. Heaps of character, down to his tattered and torn pants and his Don Quixote moustache. Came in a pack with both the mounted and foot character. Just superb. The kicker? My best friend got me one, new in blister for my birthday last year and I'm terrified to open it and work on it.
Got to be the Greater Brass Scorpion of Khorne: it is the most beautiful model I've ever had as well as being massively intimidating when it plops onto the table in front of your opponent.

Mine would have to be Batfleck and Wonder Woman on Warhorse for BMG, and Parker Barrows for Malifaux. All 3 are fairly understated, but they convey the character in a great way. For Batfleck, you have the sheer size of him compared to most of the other minis in the line (seriously, he's a tank) and the sheer threat of Batman beating the snot out of you. For Wonder Woman, there's a definite sense of majesty and wonder looking at the sculpt, and it has a far more heroic feel, looking as if she is leading a charge from the front. Parker, he's the stereotypical bandit gunslinger, but the way it's posed gives a sense of action and fluidity.
A lot of Wyrd's models and Knight's newer sculpts could also have been on here, for many reasons (Constantine and Zatanna, I'm looking at you) but the 3 I have listed are probably my favourite sculpts overall.
I cant manage to pick one single favorite miniature, so I narrowed it Down to a few.
- Wood Elf Waywatcher
- Empire Captain on Warhorse, that armour and the details on the barding on the horse sold me.
- Sanguinan Guard because nippels
- Lelith Hesperax
Dreadnoughts I love em, especially the leviathan and deredeo from forge world have 3 of each. But probably have all known released from Mark 1 space crusade up to modern telemon dreadnoughts, including elder ones etc.
I love the way they look and painting them. In fact my marine army is more dreadnought than marines.
I can't decide. So here's a selection with reasons.
2 of my old time favourites are these little Chaos Dwarf Renegades. I have 2 box sets with these figures but daren't paint them incase I ruin them. They had so many games unpainted in my youth though.
In more recent times, my favourite to paint has been the Mantic Stage 1A Resin special edition and the Plague Abomination. Not necessarily the best made models, nor are they my best paint jobs. But they were fun to paint.
I'll also mention some of the old plastic Silent Death figures I picked up the other week. My painting had stalled for a few months, but these beauties got me speed painting again. I've been painting them to match my Gates of Antares Algoryn and Concord so I can have some space games linked to the ground based games.
Another of my faves have been the metal Mantic Zombie Trolls. Great models and by heck, they weigh a load. :-)
However, I have to agree with one of the posters above, GW's Imperial Knight is one of the best models ever. The only large pricey model from GW I've bought. I really dislike all the other large models - especially as most seem to be on floaty tendrils of some kind or other.

I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - Nice models, naff games, but I'm enjoying HH2 and loving Battletech Classic and Alpha Strike.
I might have to go with the plastic Bloodthirster model as my favorite model. Here's one painted by yours truly:
Possibly the most fun I've ever had painting a model, and my second-best paintjob to date. GW really knocked it out of the park with this kit. It's so full of cool details like skulls and little Khorne symbols, it really is a joy to assemble and paint. Anyone who is a fan of Khorne should get at least one of these at some point, it really is worth it.
Another favorite, the runner up to the Thirster above, would be the XV104 Riptide from the 40k Tau range (photo from GW, not my work):
This thing is one of the coolest looking mecha-type machines I've ever seen. It just shows off the high-tech futuristic nature of the Tau perfectly. I do own one, but it isn't fully painted, something I intend to remedy this year hopefully.
Honestly I could post pics of lots of models in this as there are just so many awesome models out there, but these two are my favorites.

Well this might be difficult to nail down to a few.
Both Heresy's Fallen Boris and Madame are amongst my favourites. Both just exude character- Boris has the same pose as the original Typhus (who incidentally I converted mine to be), he has that calm, brooding look of this guy is going to feth you up. Madame OTOH just exudes this opulence and motherly pride (she is used as a GUO by me), from her bingo wings to the folds of flab on her body, she is simply tour-de-force of a miniature.
The original metal Teddy from Malifaux is an instant favourite. Still need to get my hands on one of these.
Zuggtmoy from GF9's DnD range. Only got my hands on her the other day. She now serves as a Daemon Princess of Nurgle. I saw this on Reddit a short while ago and fell in love. Then I found out it was limited edition and the hunt was on. The sneer on her face. The slim lines on her. Just the whole pose made me want it in my collection right away.
The original Logan Grimnar model by GW. The plastic one is a poor imitation of this instant classic from Jes Goodwin.
The metal CSM Terminators from 2nd. ed. Just the sheer baroqueness of their armour. The exposed cabling, the hunched poses and the brutality of them suggests if you ran into them, you're not their enemy. You're their prey. They still hold up today as I recently embiggened some to stand as tall as the Blightlords. Let it never be said a Jes Goodwin model is not fit for use.
The alternative Ashlynn D'elyse from Warmachine. Now, I'm torn on this model a little bit as it is utterly beautiful, but in no way represents her background (a dirty fighting duelist). Now there was a rumour that this was supposed to be her Epic version after she'd matured and the people of Llael have rallied around her, but either way it' still an awesome model.
The Butcher Unleashed also from Warmachine. Now this is everything you need to know about this character in the model. He. Is. Coming. For. You. And this is exactly represented in his rules. Butcher3 is the Liam Neeson of WMH. This version will find you and he will kill you. Everything there says he will hunt you down. To use the example again; you're not his enemy, you're his prey.

Absolutely, the man is a master. I think it's quite notable that his old 2nd ed era sculpts hold up a lot better than most of his contemporaries. An old Goodwin sculpt today is noticeably oldschool, but still looks cool. A lot of the rest looks comical by comparison. I'm still really fond of his original suite of Aspect Warriors, and the warlocks.
What else comes to mind?
The classic Orc shaman (by Brian Nelson I believe?). I don't know what it is about it, I just love the model. Nothing fancy, just a great sculpt. Similarly I've always liked the Slann, that big hunk of metal balancing on a little flying stand. For more modern stuff, I adore the Forgeworld Avatar - both versions, though it's the sword version that I actually own. It's still unbuilt, and I'm almost scared to start. Maybe I'm afraid of not doing the model justice?
I too shall stop, because I could probably go on all day.
My favorite model has always been Ghazgkhull. It's even more true now in an era with huge superheroes as I always thought that the biggest infantry HQs should be his size, not Mortarion's.
Among the most recent models I'd say wulfen, I started SW basically because of them and the TWC
